Alistair Floral Design is a Maltese florist at Triq L-Imriehel in Birkirkara, making fresh bouquets and arrangements, wedding flowers, and floral decoration for events, hotels, offices and yachts. Bouquets can be ordered online for delivery in Malta and Gozo, and wedding consultations can be held online or in person. Enquiries go to the florist through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.

Alistair Floral Design is a family named florist in Birkirkara that has grown from a single supermarket flower counter into one of the best known floral studios in Malta. Its florists make everyday bouquets and arrangements for birthdays, anniversaries and romantic gestures, design flowers for weddings, and decorate events for companies, hotels, restaurants and yachts. A separate seasonal Christmas range fills the shop each winter.

For a UK reader there are two main reasons to get in touch. If you live in Britain and want to send flowers to someone in Malta or Gozo, bouquets can be chosen and paid for online. If you are planning a wedding or event on the islands, the team offers a free consultation by online meeting or in person, so you can plan from home before you travel.

The story behind the studio

Alistair began helping to prepare church flowers as a child, after a family friend introduced him to the craft. In autumn 1998 he was trusted with two family weddings, and in 1999 he completed an international course in technical floral design in London, finishing first in his class. After returning to Malta he took part in an educational television series, which led to freelance and consultancy work in home decor, artificial flower arrangements and events.

The first flower shop opened in 2006 inside the PAVI supermarket. Positive feedback from regular customers led to a second shop in the centre of Mosta in 2008, with more room for shelving and seasonal home decor, and in 2010 the business consolidated into a single hub in Birkirkara. Today it imports hand picked flowers, vases, pots, lanterns, event props, gift wrapping, ribbons and seasonal decor from more than 16 countries, and its fresh flowers come from trusted growers in Holland and their sustainable suppliers.

The studio's portfolio includes flowers for high profile moments in Maltese public life: a Royal visit, a Papal visit, international state visits, a series of Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings hosted by Queen Elizabeth II in Malta, visits by prime ministers and other dignitaries, and state funerals. Its designers have also decorated sets for the film industry, parties on superyachts, cruise liner events and stages for international television stations. If those occasions interest you, our guide to Valletta covers the capital where many of them take place.

Fresh bouquets and arrangements

The online shop is organised by occasion, category and collection. Occasions include romantic, anniversary, birthday, get well, new baby, Mother's Day, Women's Day, festive and funeral tributes. You can browse bouquets, arrangements and plants, and choose between the Alistair's Pick collection and the Deluxe collection. Each bouquet is made by in-house florists using seasonal flowers from the studio's growers, and the aim is to give long lasting blooms.

Prices are printed on the site. The romantic range shows prices from €35.00, €40.00, €50.00, €60.00 and €80.00, depending on the design. Bouquets shown on the home page start from €60.00, and a Christmas product starts from €45.00. The shop presents roses as the classic romantic gift, whether you are surprising a partner in Malta or Gozo or sending flowers just because. Valentine's Day flowers include free delivery in Malta to homes and businesses, and there is a dedicated Valentine 2026 collection with a pinks collection among the designs. Mother's Day, new baby, get well and funeral tribute flowers have their own pages too.

Gifts can be added to an order: chocolates and sweets, greeting cards, scented candles, soft toys, balloons, vases, bath products and alcoholic drinks, such as an Abruzzo red at €19.00 or a Prosecco at €15.50. A flower care section and flower subscriptions are also listed. The Baobab Collection offers luxury scented candles, diffusers and car diffusers, with an Arabian Nights Candle from €315.00 and a 500 ml diffuser from €130.00.

Ordering online comes with delivery and aftercare, and the florists check every flower and leaf for freshness before a bouquet is made. The studio's approach is to combine bespoke designs that stay true to the original Alistair's Design style with careful listening to what each customer asks for, without compromising on quality. Flowers can be delivered in Malta and Gozo, which makes the shop useful for UK families sending a gift to relatives on the islands. Our Gozo guide is a good companion if the recipient lives there.

Wedding flowers

Weddings are a central part of the business. The designers create floral concepts for brides across Malta, from buttonholes and bridal bouquets to centrepieces, church and venue florals, bridesmaid and flower girl flowers, pew and chair decor, candles, flower arches and door decor, and even flowers for wedding cakes.

The process starts with a free wedding consultation. You complete a short form with your wedding date, ceremony and reception locations and preferred appointment time, and choose an online meeting or an in-person meeting. The online option suits couples living in the UK or elsewhere who are planning a destination wedding. The website also carries advice on choosing flowers, types of wedding flowers, favourite venues and wedding planners, and a blog with articles such as Malta's most breathtaking churches for a wedding and the importance of a mood board.

The designers encourage couples to add their own twist rather than follow every tradition, and they work with highly regarded European growers to offer colourful, scented blooms through the year. They add that there is no single right flower for a wedding: the choice depends on your mood board, colour palette and the season. Many guests travel for Maltese weddings, so our guides to where to stay in Malta and flights to Malta from the UK are worth sharing with them.

Events, corporate and Christmas decor

Alistair Floral Design also works for businesses. Its team decorates private events, business events, restaurants and shops with seasonal display decorations, hotel lobbies and suites, offices and window displays, and it creates bespoke installations such as floral decor for yachts and cruise liners. Examples shown on the site include corporate Christmas decor, corporate photoshoots, private themed parties and work for the Office of the President. Standing orders are available for businesses that need regular fresh flowers, and a free event consultation can be requested through the site. The team enjoys rising to the challenge of international events hosted in Malta, where a strong first impression matters, and it takes pride in its Maltese heritage when working on that stage.

Christmas is a speciality. The studio offers a Christmas shop with festive decorations, plus design, setup and dismantling services for residential and commercial properties. For more about the season on the islands, see our Malta weather guide when planning a winter visit, and our listing of hotels across Malta if you want to see where festive displays often appear.
