Apex Dental is a private dental practice with two clinics in Birkirkara, Malta: the main clinic at Trident Park in Mrieħel and a second on Level 3 of St Anne's Clinic. Six dentists provide check-ups, implants, clear aligners, cosmetic work and emergency care, with published prices. Enquiries go to the practice through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.

Apex Dental is a private dentist's practice in Birkirkara, the largest town in the middle of Malta. It runs from two clinics, employs six dentists and holds consultations in five languages. For a UK visitor it is a sensible option for a check-up, a damaged tooth or a planned treatment during a long stay, and for British residents it spans fillings, hygiene, implants and clear aligners, with fees laid out openly.

Patients have been treated in Birkirkara since 2001, and the clinics use digital scans instead of the old putty impressions. On VisitMalta.co.uk the practice is listed among the dentists in Malta.

The practice, the clinics and the team

The story starts in 2001, when the practice began seeing patients at St Anne's Clinic. A second, larger site opened at Trident Park in Mrieħel in 2023, and 2024 brought full implant surgery, All-on-4 and clear aligner treatment. For 2025 the practice was recognised for a high standard of compliance with legal obligations. Fees are identical at both sites, so you can choose whichever has the sooner appointment.

Dr Jonathan Mifsud founded Apex Dental and is its dental implantologist, placing everything from one implant to a full set of fixed teeth. Dr Aleksandra Syrico Mallia is the orthodontist, working with children, teenagers and adults. General and restorative care is covered by Dr Charlotte Axisa, Dr Massimo D'Alessandro, Dr Adam Borg and Dr Martha Lopez, who also has a keen interest in cosmetic work.

All six dentists speak English. In addition, Dr Syrico Mallia consults in Polish and German, Dr D'Alessandro in Italian and Dr Lopez in Spanish, which helps anyone who would rather discuss treatment in their first language. Crowns, bridges and implant teeth are made at a dental laboratory belonging to the practice, also in Birkirkara.

Check-ups, hygiene and everyday dentistry

A routine check-up costs €30, whether you are an adult or a child, and includes a look at teeth, gums, bite and any existing restorations. Imaging is optional and added only when it is useful: a small X-ray is €20 each and a panoramic image of the whole jaw is €70. A hygiene session of scaling and polishing is €50.

There is no separate registration for new patients. Instead, a €20 booking fee holds a first, emergency or longer appointment and comes off the final bill. At that first visit the dentist records your medical history, examines you, and then explains the findings in order of importance, with a price for each step before any work begins. Anxious patients can mention it when booking, and a first appointment can be just a conversation.

Day-to-day treatment includes tooth-coloured fillings from €70, extractions from €60, root canal work at €250 for a front tooth and €280 for a back tooth, and gum care. For younger patients the list runs to baby tooth fillings at €40, fissure sealing at €30 per tooth and fluoride at €40. If you are planning a longer trip, our guide on where to stay in Malta shows the options by area.

Implants, crowns and replacing teeth

Implants are the practice's biggest specialism. Dr Mifsud uses the Straumann BLX system from Switzerland and works at both sites. Every case begins with a CBCT scan, a low-dose three-dimensional image of the jaw, so each implant position is mapped on a screen ahead of surgery. An implant consultation is €30 and the scan is €120, and both cost nothing if you proceed with surgery.

A single implant with its crown is priced from €1,500 to €1,800, depending on the implant brand, abutment and crown. A full-arch bridge on four implants (the Toronto bridge, or All-on-4) is €10,000, using zirconia teeth. All-on-6 and bone grafts are available too, and a patient having All-on-4 will often leave the surgery wearing temporary teeth.

For crowns the practice uses CEREC, which designs and mills a ceramic crown in the clinic so it can be fitted in a single visit, provided the tooth is suitable. Bridges, partial and complete dentures and removable prosthetics complete the options for replacing missing teeth. Anyone who is thinking about a longer move to the islands may find our UK guide to relocating to Malta useful alongside a dental plan.

Aligners, braces and cosmetic dentistry

Dr Syrico Mallia leads orthodontics and plans each case around the way the upper and lower teeth meet, as well as the look of the smile. Patients can choose fixed braces or clear aligners, including Orthix, the practice's own aligner, and the Invisalign, ClearCorrect, Ordoline and Cristaline brands. Planning starts from a digital scan, and a lateral cephalometric X-ray used in orthodontic assessment is €120.

On the cosmetic side the practice offers whitening, veneers and bonding, with the emphasis on a natural result. A home whitening kit with custom-made trays is €250, and veneers are porcelain or composite shells that alter the shape, colour and line of the front teeth.

Printed prices come with a caution that the final fee depends on how complex a case is and which materials are used, so a consultation confirms the figure. Bigger plans such as implants or braces run over several visits, and the total is given in writing before they begin.

Emergencies, visitors and payment

The clinics keep space for urgent cases: severe toothache, swelling, a broken or knocked-out tooth, or a crown or filling that has come out. Whoever has the next free slot is offered it, often on the same day, and an emergency booking carries the €20 fee. On Sunday mornings Trident Park opens for emergencies only, with an extra Sunday fee. We cannot say what counts as urgent for you, so describe the problem in your enquiry.

Holidaymakers are welcome without registering or needing a referral. British visitors should bear in mind that the EHIC and GHIC cards cover state healthcare and not private clinics, while many travel insurance policies do cover emergency dental treatment, so read your own policy first. Payment is by card, bank transfer or Revolut.

Between appointments, our guides to hotels in Sliema, the Valletta city guide and things to do in Malta will help you plan the rest of your stay, and flights to Malta from the UK covers the journey. A taxi from Valletta, Sliema or St Julian's to either clinic is short.

Choosing a dentist while you are in Malta

Picking a dentist in an unfamiliar country is easier when you know what to look for. Apex Dental builds its approach on four points: fees you can read before you sit in the chair, an explanation of what was found before any treatment is agreed, a team broad enough that implants, braces and routine care all sit within one practice, and consultations in your own language. Nothing is carried out without your consent, and larger plans are priced in writing first.

A check-up is a low-cost way to find out whether a clinic suits you, and the practice invites patients to come even when nothing hurts. Birkirkara is a central town with good bus links, which makes both sites easy to reach from most of the island. If you are still choosing where to base yourself, browse hotels across Malta and read our guide to Malta for background on the islands.

Visiting the clinics and getting started

Trident Park, on Mdina Road in Mrieħel, is where implants are planned and placed. The St Anne's site is up on Level 3 of its building in the centre of town, where parking is on the surrounding streets and buses serve the area. Tell the practice when you book if stairs are a problem.

On weekdays both sites run from 9:00 to 19:00, with shorter Saturday hours and Sunday emergency cover at Trident Park only. For anything else, see the practical details above. Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to Apex Dental, who will reply to you directly to arrange a time.

Questions about Apex Dental

Where are the Apex Dental clinics?

There are two clinics in Birkirkara: the main clinic at Trident Park, Mdina Road, Mrieħel, and Apex Dental at St Anne's Clinic on Level 3, Triq Kanonku Karm Pirotta. Both are in central Malta and charge the same published fees.

What are the opening hours?

Both clinics open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 19:00. On Saturday Trident Park opens from 9:00 to 13:30 and St Anne's from 9:00 to 13:00. On Sunday only Trident Park opens, from 9:00 to 12:30, for emergencies.

Do the dentists speak English?

Yes. All six dentists speak English, and consultations are also available in Polish, German, Italian and Spanish. Tell the practice your preferred language in your enquiry so that the right dentist can be offered.

Does Apex Dental see visitors to Malta?

Yes. Visitors are seen without registration or a referral, often on the same day. A €20 booking fee secures the appointment and is deducted from the final bill, and many travel insurance policies cover emergency dental treatment.

How much is a check-up?

A routine check-up is €30 and a hygiene session is €50. Small X-rays are €20 each, a panoramic X-ray is €70, and anything beyond that is explained and priced before it is done.

What implant treatment is available?

Dr Jonathan Mifsud places Straumann BLX implants from single teeth to full-arch All-on-4 cases at both clinics, planned from a 3D scan. A single implant with crown is from €1,500 to €1,800, and an All-on-4 bridge is €10,000.

Is there emergency dental care on Sundays?

Trident Park holds an emergency clinic on Sunday from 9:00 to 12:30, and a Sunday appointment carries an extra fee. St Anne's Clinic is closed on Sundays, so Sunday emergencies go to Trident Park.

How do I arrange an appointment?

Send your details and what you need through the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page. We pass your message to Apex Dental, who reply to you directly to find an appointment at either clinic.
