ARtech

Anyone who has spent a July afternoon in Malta knows that air conditioning is closer to a necessity than a luxury. ARtech, an air conditioning business in Birkirkara, sells and installs the Mitsair brand, which it presents as Japanese technology for the home and for commercial buildings. The business marks 25 years in the trade and gives a five year warranty on parts and labour, and its range stretches from a single bedroom unit to central systems for large premises.

It is a useful name for new arrivals, landlords and small business owners who want a clear package of supply, delivery and fitting from one supplier. Our guide to Malta's weather explains how hot and humid the summer months get, which is a good starting point when you are deciding how much cooling you need.

Home air conditioners and printed prices

The home range is built around Mitsair highwall units, which are mounted high on a wall inside the room. They come in four capacities, and each one is matched to a room size. The 9,000 BTU model suits a room of about 15 square metres and costs €550. The 12,000 BTU model covers about 20 square metres at €570. The 18,000 BTU unit is for about 29 square metres at €820, and the 24,000 BTU unit covers around 39 square metres at €999. Each price includes VAT, delivery and installation, and the maker quotes A+++ energy efficiency and a quiet, powerful operation.

A limited special offer has also been advertised on the 12,000 BTU unit at €545 with installation, so ask whether it is still running when you enquire. If you are furnishing a flat from scratch, our relocation guide for Malta lists the other jobs worth planning early, and shops such as A-Store, an electronics shop in the area can help with the rest of the household equipment.

Systems for offices, shops and larger buildings

Beyond the home market, ARtech offers commercial split units in three formats. Ceiling units are suited to large open spaces because they push air a long way across a room. Cassette units sit in a false ceiling and spread air in every direction, which works well in offices and retail space. Concealed units are hidden above the ceiling with only the air grilles on show, giving flexible ducted cooling.

For bigger buildings there are VRV central systems. One outdoor unit connects to several indoor units, so each space can be controlled separately, with the design flexibility and efficiency that large premises need. Malta's office market is busy, particularly around financial services firms and iGaming companies, and these are the kinds of premises where multi-room systems are typically specified. The business does not publish project lists, so describe your building when you write.

Servicing and after-sales

Air conditioners work harder in Malta than in most of the UK, so regular servicing is worth budgeting for. ARtech invites customers to fill in a short form with their name, email address and phone number, after which the team calls back with an appointment for servicing or any other request. The business encourages customers to book their first maintenance visit as soon as a unit is in. Regular visits keep a new system running efficiently through the hot months.
