Bloom Creative is a branding and design studio on Triq tal-Balal in San Ġwann, run by designers and built around a love of well-made visual work. It is one of the more design-led names among the graphic designers in Malta, and its aim is to help brands bloom, whether they are local start-ups or international names working in Malta.

What sets the studio apart is that the people who create the work are also the main contact for every client. The idea is that good brands begin with good conversations, and that accountability and personal commitment follow when the designer is in the room.

Who is behind the studio

Bloom is led by two co-founders and creative directors, Matthew Demarco and Neil Martin. They are joined by Daniel Cassar Torreggiani, creative designer, in a tightly knit team of versatile creatives.

If you are a UK company planning to open in Malta, the studio's one-to-one approach means you can talk directly to the people making your logo, packaging or publication. For help with the company side of a move, our featured partner CLA Malta covers formation and tax, and the Malta relocation guide sets out what the move involves. Tax questions for UK nationals are covered in our Malta tax guide for UK residents, and the studio's own brief is simply to make your brand look right wherever it is seen.

What Bloom Creative offers

The studio works in six areas: brand strategy, brand identity, rebranding, packaging, product design and editorial design. In practice, its output runs from graphics and identity through to products, packaging, advertising and communications, and a contact form invites enquiries about branding, web and marketing projects.

Brand strategy is the thinking that comes before the logo: who the brand is for and how it should sound and look. The studio has applied this to professional services, including a brand strategy project for EY and rebranding for the law firm Ganado Advocates, which is useful context for anyone exploring financial services in Malta. It has also designed identities for companies in sectors as varied as health, fashion, food and technology.

Selected projects

Hospitality and food feature strongly. Bloom rebranded ION Harbour, a Michelin-star restaurant in Malta, with a refined and modular identity that can travel to other locations. It created the brand identity for Malta Marriott, a rebrand for the Teatru Salesjan, and identities for Cru, Emma's Kitchen, FoodPlan, Olly's Finest Cuts and Huskie, a craft beer brand with colourful packaging. Visitors planning a stay can browse hotels across Malta to see the island's hospitality scene.

Property and public work includes the rebrand of Mercury Towers, a Zaha Hadid Architects development described as Malta's largest to date, where the studio designed the print and digital collateral for the launch. It also refreshed the logo of radio station 89.7 Bay, keeping its triangular shape, and revamped the identity of the Malta Paralympic Committee ahead of the 2021 Paralympic Games, following International Paralympic Committee guidelines.

Culture and events appear too: the portfolio includes the Notte Bianca identity, and editorial work such as Chef Marvin Gauci's cocktail book, Skipper and Money. For wider ideas on what the island offers, see our guide to things to do in Malta.

Working with Bloom from the UK

Many clients in the portfolio are companies that trade internationally, and the studio cultivates brands in diverse markets and industries. A company in the sector covered by our iGaming in Malta guide, or a business planning flights back and forth from the UK, can brief the studio remotely and meet in San Ġwann when needed. Check flights to Malta if you plan a visit.
