Flyboard Malta is a licensed flyboarding centre operating from Spinola Bay in St Julian's, with its office in Birkirkara. It sells flights of 20 or 30 minutes with an instructor, runs advanced rider and instructor courses, stages flyboard shows and distributes Zapata Racing equipment in Malta. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page and we will pass them to the business.

Flyboard Malta is the island's specialist flyboarding centre. A flyboard is a board with boots that is connected by a long hose to a jet ski, which pushes water through jets under your feet so that you rise above the surface and move around, a little like walking in the air. The business is run by co-founders Simon and Joanne Desira, who are master instructors, and Simon is also a professional flyboarder. The company is the official and exclusive representative of Zapata Racing in Malta.

For visitors, the main draw is a short guided flight from Spinola Bay in St Julian's. The centre sits in our directory of water sports in Malta.

Flyboard flights for first-timers

Two flight packages are offered, a 20-minute Teaser Flight and a 30-minute Full Flight. No experience is needed. Each begins with a 15-minute briefing and pre-flight training, and the flight time then starts once you arrive at the flying area, so travel to and from that area is not counted. A personal instructor stays with you throughout and controls the flyboard from the jet ski throttle, and a communication helmet lets the instructor talk you through the flight in real time.

The package includes the jet ski and instructor, a full wetsuit, a life jacket and the helmet, and flying is guaranteed. Photos and a short video can be arranged, and a helmet camera or drone footage is available as paid extras. Because the centre only uses one flyboard at a time for most bookings, larger groups should ask in advance about timings.

Who can fly and what to know

You must be able to swim and be in good health, and age and weight limits apply, so ask the centre about the limits when you enquire. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Anyone judged to be intoxicated is refused access without a refund. Guests with asthma or diabetes should tell the instructor and keep medication close by, and people with an ongoing heart condition or who are pregnant cannot fly. You must wear the equipment provided and follow the instructor at all times.

On the booking side, flights depend on availability, bookings cannot be postponed, and a deposit is refunded only if a session is cancelled because of bad weather. Vouchers must be used within six months of purchase. The centre operates from Spinola Bay unless told otherwise, so confirm the meeting point before you travel. Wind and sea state matter, and our Malta weather guide shows what to expect through the year.

Training courses and instructor certification

The advanced rider programme suits people who want to progress beyond a first flight. Riders can choose flyboarding, hoverboarding or the jetpack for any session, and a certificate is given at the end. Courses are priced at €240 per hour of flyboarding, with time between sessions and video analysis not charged. Sessions are split into 15-minute blocks, giving time to rest and review footage with a coach. A residential-style training camp can include airport and hotel transfers and ends with a tour of the old city of Mdina and a traditional dinner.

For people who want to run or work in a rental business, the Flyboard Instructor Course costs €900 including VAT. It covers preparing the jet ski and flyboard, safety, the electronic management kit, radio communication with flyers, cleaning, checks and maintenance, and requires 20 hours of logged flyboard use, CPR certification and boating or personal watercraft experience. The business can also advise on setting up a rental centre.

Shows, equipment and sales

Flyboard Malta is part of the official Flyboard show team of Zapata Racing and can stage a display at an event on the open sea, a lake or a pool. It also distributes Flyboard, Hoverboard by ZR and Jetpack by ZR products, with parts, safety gear and accessories sold through its website. A Flyboard Pro Series model is priced at €5,251 including VAT.
