I Love Malta Boat Charters is a local sea crew based at Ċirkewwa in Mellieħa, with a second base in Għajnsielem on Gozo. It runs private boat tours, self-drive boat hire, guided jet ski safaris, snorkelling, fishing and sunset trips around Comino, Gozo and north Malta. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.

I Love Malta Boat Charters is a sea-going outfit based at Ċirkewwa, the ferry and boat departure point at the northern tip of Malta. Its trips explore the water between Malta, Comino and Gozo, from sea caves and quiet bays to the famous Blue Lagoon, on private boats with a skipper or on jet skis with a guide.

The crew describe themselves as a local team rather than a travel agency, with a focus on plain options, clear pricing and a straightforward booking process. On VisitMalta.co.uk the business is listed under boat charters, water sports and tour operators.

The business and its history

The team has offered boat trips and sea experiences around Malta, Gozo and Comino since 2017, helping guests explore with local knowledge, flexible routes and personal support. In 2019 it opened a second base so that it could run trips from both Malta and Gozo, and in 2020 it widened its routes to include more sea caves and quieter bays beyond the obvious stops.

New experiences followed in 2021, the fleet was upgraded in 2024, and in 2025 SunReel Boats became part of the brand. The crew plans each stop around the wind, the clarity of the water and the best swimming spots, so the route on the day depends on conditions.

Who the trips suit

The trips are designed for couples, families and groups of friends. A private boat gives you space to spend time together without strangers on board, while shorter outings suit anyone with a tight schedule, and longer ones suit those who want to swim, snorkel and explore. Families with children can ask the crew for advice on which trip fits their group. Guests who like a faster pace can choose a jet ski safari instead, and those who want something different can try the subwing session. Whatever you choose, the crew can help you compare the options once you give your date, group size and departure point.

Private boat tours

Private tours are the core of the business. The boat is reserved for your group, a skipper is included and so is fuel. You choose how long to go out for, and you can tell the skipper whether you want more swimming, more snorkelling or more cruising; the route is then adjusted within the booked time.

A short cave tour of one or two hours suits a tight schedule, and a two-hour tour of the Blue Lagoon and Crystal Lagoon is listed at €169. Three-hour and four-hour tours give more time for swimming, with the three-hour day tour at €259 and the four-hour tour at €349. The six-hour tour around Comino and the south of Gozo costs €409, and the full-day Gozo and Comino explorer, which comes with an extra 30 minutes free, costs €499. Prices are per boat, not per person, and cover the passenger allowance stated in the package.

The standard boat takes up to eight passengers, with the price covering six, while a premium boat takes up to 22. Private tours carry an icebox or cooler, and you can bring your own food and drinks. Typical stops include Cominotto Reef, San Niklaw, Santa Marija Caves, Hondoq Bay, Mġarr ix-Xini and Xatt l-Aħmar. Our Blue Lagoon guide and Gozo guide show what each area is like.

What a day on the water looks like

The longer private trips follow a clear pattern. You meet the skipper at the Ċirkewwa jetty or the Mġarr jetty in Gozo, receive a short safety briefing and set off. A typical Comino route passes Lantern Point and Saint Mary Tower, then visits sea caves such as Lovers' Cave and Popeye Cave, the Crystal Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon, before returning to the jetty. Each stop is short for sightseeing and photographs, with longer swims in between.

The six-hour tour is the one to choose if you want to avoid the busiest times in the Blue Lagoon, since the skipper can time that stop more strategically and spend longer in quieter spots. Shorter tours can be arranged to avoid crowds where possible. Usually there are two or three swim stops, depending on conditions and how fast the group wants to go.

At Xatt l-Aħmar the water is best known for shipwreck diving, and on the three-hour tour optional cliff-jump spots are offered if the sea is safe. The boats have cushioned seats and shade, and Bluetooth audio is included on several tours, so you can play your own music. If the wind is strong the crew will tell you about the expected wave height and give you the chance to reschedule.

Snorkelling, fishing and sunset trips

Snorkelling trips include the gear and head for clear-water swim spots. A two-hour trip costs €179 and a four-hour trip costs €319, and the longer one lets you add stops and time the Blue Lagoon more carefully. Spots are picked to suit the sea on the day, and a relaxed pace is easy to arrange for beginners.

Fishing trips come with a local skipper, all the rods and tackle, and a cooler. A three-hour trip costs €289, a five-hour trip €389 and a seven-hour trip, which includes 30 minutes free, costs €469. There is also a three-hour private sunset boat tour with extra swim stops around Comino and the Gozo bays, and the business can help organise private boat parties.

Self-drive boats, jet skis and subwing

If you would rather be your own captain, a self-drive boat is priced at €59, with a briefing before departure and fuel paid separately. Half-day and full-day self-drive options let you explore Comino and north Malta at your own pace.

Guided jet ski safaris follow a coastal route with a tour leader, with fuel, life jacket and safety briefing included. A one-hour safari costs €119 per jet ski and a two-hour safari costs €199. Beginners can join, provided they meet the rider requirements. For independent riding, jet ski rental takes place in a supervised riding area, in sessions of 10, 20 or 30 minutes, and the price listed is €25.

The subwing experience is a short session of 15 minutes, costing €29 per passenger, in which you are towed behind a boat and glide underwater with an instructor, with life jacket and equipment included.

Booking and getting there

Booking is done online or by enquiry. Tell the team your preferred date, group size, departure location and what you want to do, and they help you compare options. Booking direct is described as the way to avoid platform fees. A deposit secures your place and the balance is paid in cash, in euros, to the skipper on the day for private charters. A full refund is available if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead.

Selected trips leave from Ċirkewwa in Malta or Mġarr in Gozo, subject to availability. Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and any drinks or snacks. Our Mellieħa guide covers the village near the Ċirkewwa departure point, and you can compare places to stay in our list of hotels in Mellieħa. Other sights close to the route include Popeye Village, and our best beaches in Malta page will help plan beach days. The Malta weather guide shows when the sea is warmest.
