Approach and the clinic
The clinic aims to give each client a boutique experience with enough time to talk through their needs without feeling rushed or pressured. It does not offer one size fits all plans, and it prioritises natural-looking results that keep you looking like yourself, only fresher. Every plan starts with a consultation, where a doctor assesses your concerns and suggests a personal treatment plan.
The premises are a doctor's clinic with a calm, serene feel, equipped with Candela laser technology. Reception has a small waiting area, and the consulting rooms are set up for private conversations before any treatment. The clinic works with well-known pharmaceutical and skincare brands, and the team keeps up to date with the latest treatment methods.
The doctors
MAKE was founded by Dr Marie Claire Bartolo, who is also the medical director. She has more than ten years of experience in aesthetic medicine, trained at institutes in London and elsewhere, and has a background in family medicine and nutrition. Around her is a team of aesthetic doctors that includes Dr Shana Mifsud, Dr Daphne Cauchi, Dr Nicola Darmanin and Dr Eve Warrington. Dr Darmanin graduated as a medical doctor in Malta in 2018, and Dr Warrington graduated from the University of Malta in 2017.
Treatments are carried out by doctors, which matters for injectables and laser work. If you are relocating, our guide to relocating to Malta explains the practicalities of settling in, and a consultation is a good way to find a local aesthetic doctor you are comfortable with.
Laser hair removal and pigmentation
Laser hair removal at MAKE uses Candela technology. The clinic recommends a course of sessions spaced about eight weeks apart, and every course begins with a doctor's consultation to create a personal plan. Timed sessions cost €60 for 30 minutes or €90 for 60 minutes on any area, and per-area prices start at €25 for the upper lip, chin or cheeks. Package deals include six 30 minute sessions for €250 and six 60 minute sessions for €380, plus six-session bikini line or underarm packages at €120 each.
The same laser is used for age spots and sunspots. Pigmentation treatment is priced by the shot, from €50 for one or two shots, up to €200 for two whole areas. Summer is when many clients think about skin, so our Malta weather guide is useful for planning around the sunniest months.
Injectables and skin boosters
Anti-wrinkle treatments use botulinum toxin to soften lines at the forehead, frown area and crow's feet. Printed prices include €115 for a gummy smile, lip flip or smoker's lines, €185 for frown lines and forehead or crow's feet, and €270 for the full upper face or for masseter treatment. The clinic also treats excessive sweating with Botox, with underarms priced at €399.
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid products from Juvederm and Teoxane, priced by area or by product. Lip augmentation starts at €220, cheek and jaw work from €300, and tear trough from €275. Skin quality treatments include Profhilo at €250 for 2ml and polynucleotide products, as well as Teoxane Redensity 1, sometimes called babyGLOW, and exosomes at €250 a session. A lighter treatment can fit into a short stay: see our guides to things to do in Malta for the rest of your itinerary.
Skin, vein and body treatments
Chemical peels use Medik8 and Obagi products. Medik8 peels start at €80 for one layer, and an Obagi peel is €100. Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is offered for skin texture, hyperpigmentation and acne scarring, and acne treatment combines microneedling with peels.
Vein treatments use microsclerotherapy, in which a fine needle places a sclerosing agent into spider and thread veins, and it is a walk-in, walk-out procedure. One area costs €150 and two areas €260. Aqualyx is a non-surgical fat dissolving treatment for localised areas such as the chin, stomach, thighs, arms and hips. A doctor decides whether any treatment is suitable for you.
Botox for excessive sweating is priced by area: underarms are €399, one area is €430, two areas are €800 and three areas are €1100. The treatment works by blocking the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, and your doctor can explain how long results last. Exosomes are offered at €250 for a single session. These are useful figures if you are comparing clinics, but a consultation is the way to confirm what suits your skin and budget.
Sessions, timings and product choices
Laser sessions are quick, and treatment time depends on the area: a small area such as the upper lip takes a few minutes, while legs or back take longer. Botox appointments typically last 10 to 30 minutes. Fillers are chosen with you from a range of products, with the doctor selecting the product and amount for the look you want, and the clinic stresses natural, balanced results for lips as well as cheeks, jawline and the lines around the mouth.
Prices by product are printed for those who like to compare. Juvederm options include Ultra Smile 0.5ml at €220, Volbella 1ml at €350, Voluma 1ml at €350 and Voluma 2ml at €650, while the Teosyal range includes RHA Kiss 0.7ml at €230, Redensity 1 at €250 and RHA4 2ml at €650. Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid skin booster for the face, neck and hands, and polynucleotide treatments are used to improve hydration, firmness and elasticity. Other skin booster products on the list include Plinest Face 2ml at €300 and a neck product at €350.
