You do not have to be a Buddhist to take part.
The centre appears in our directory of meditation centres in Malta and in the listing of charity organisations in Malta, since it is a registered not-for-profit.
Saturday mornings in Mosta
The main weekly event is Sangha Morning, held every Saturday from 10:30 to 13:00 at the centre on Triq il-Leġġenda. The door opens at 10:00, and the session combines led meditations, talks, discussion and time with the community. It is open to everyone, suits complete beginners and does not need to be booked. Arrive before the start, because if you come after 10:30 you will be asked to wait until 11:15 while a meditation is in progress.
The recommended donation for Sangha Morning is €5, and nobody is turned away for giving less. Mosta is central, so it is easy to combine with a day out; our Mdina guide covers the old capital nearby, and the things to do in Malta page has more ideas.
Courses in meditation and Buddhism
The Introduction to Meditation course teaches three meditation practices and includes workshops on posture, deepening practice and working with a wandering mind. Students practise at home between sessions, using recordings of led meditations. Courses meet on Thursday evenings, starting at 19:00, and the centre opens at 18:45 only when a course is running. The suggested donation for a course is €120, with reduced amounts of €90, €60 or €20 welcome.
For those who want to go further, there is a five-week Introduction to Buddhism course, a five-week course on Buddhist ethics and a course on the Wheel of Life, a traditional illustration of how habits and misconceptions shape our lives. No previous knowledge is needed, and teaching reflects the Triratna understanding of the Buddha's message. Dates are announced when the next course is planned.
The teaching describes Buddhism as a path to practise rather than a set of beliefs to accept. It is presented as a non-theistic tradition, with a central idea of commitment, traditionally called Going for Refuge to the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha, meaning the awakened mind, the teachings and the community. If you enjoy reading around the subject, the Agenda Bookshop is a few kilometres away.
Festival days and retreats
The centre marks the main Buddhist festivals with weekend programmes of led meditation, talks and ritual, plus a shared vegetarian picnic in a park each day. The next is a Sangha Festival Weekend on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November 2026, with sessions from 10:30 to 19:00 on Saturday and 10:30 to 17:30 on Sunday; the recommended donation is €25 per day, and you can book one or both days. Occasionally the community also travels to Triratna retreat centres abroad.
The centre is led by its founder and chair, who was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2005, taught at the Dublin Buddhist Centre for many years and has lived in Malta since 2017.
