Yoga Malta is an indoor and outdoor yoga studio based on Manoel Island in Gżira, running land classes, stand up paddleboard yoga and tours, sunset sailing yoga, workshops and teacher training courses. Sessions take place at several spots around the island as well as at its studio in Msida. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page.
Yoga Malta is one of the more unusual ways to spend time on the island: a studio that takes its practice outdoors, onto fortress terraces, rocky shores, beaches, paddleboards and the deck of a catamaran. Its base is Manoel Island in Gżira, in the middle of the Marsamxett harbour area, with Valletta's skyline sitting just across the water. If you are looking for yoga studios in Malta that mix classes with sea-based experiences, this is a studio worth knowing about.
The programme runs from drop-in style classes through to multi-day teacher training. Visitors can book a single sunrise session, a three-hour paddleboard tour or an evening sail, while residents and longer-stay guests can build a regular routine around the weekly timetable. It also appears in our directory of water sports in Malta because so much of what it offers takes place on the sea.
The studio and its teachers
The studio describes itself as welcoming to everyone, from experienced practitioners to people attending their first class. The stated aim is a space where everyone can feel comfortable learning together. Teaching draws on classical Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Yin styles, and the instructors come from a range of backgrounds and lineages, including Restorative yoga as well. The team is international, and the studio talks of more than twenty styles of wellness, yoga and meditation across its offer.
All land classes are open to every level. Teachers give modifications to poses, so a beginner and a seasoned student can share the same session without either feeling out of place. That is useful for visitors who have practised yoga at home in the UK and want to carry on during a holiday without worrying about whether the class will be pitched correctly.
Several teachers are named on the site for particular courses, including Merve for Yin teacher training and the sailing experience, Christiane for Rocket Yoga and Geoff for meditation and breathwork. Teachers vary by session, so check the timetable for who is leading the class you want.
Yoga classes and where they meet
The core timetable covers Hatha Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yang Yoga, Yin Yoga, Power Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Beach Yoga and Full Moon Yoga. Recent listings show a single class priced at €17.00, with Hatha Vinyasa on Manoel Island in the early morning and early evening, Yin Yang on Manoel Island on Friday and Sunday evenings, and Sunrise Power Yoga in Sliema on Thursday mornings.
Beach Yoga runs on Sunday mornings at Għajn Tuffieħa, known to many visitors as Riviera, on the north-west coast near Golden Bay. A Yin session is held at the Msida studio in the evening. Because locations change from week to week, the live schedule is the place to confirm where each class will meet and what time it starts.
Classes typically last between 60 and 75 minutes. Listed times in the current schedule include 7:00 am to 8:00 am for sunrise sessions and 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm for evening flows. Outdoor classes depend on the weather, and the island's weather by month is worth a glance when planning a trip, particularly if you want to practise on the shore in the cooler months.
SUP yoga, paddleboard tours and sailing
Water is where the studio sets itself apart. Stand up paddleboard yoga combines paddling with a yoga practice on the sea, which tests balance and focus in a way a mat on dry land does not. It suits beginners and experienced practitioners alike, and the studio supplies the boards, paddles and masks as rental items.
The guided SUP tours are separate from the yoga classes and contain no yoga. These are three-hour outings along the coast, and the schedule lists tours to the Blue Grotto area in the early morning, to Gnejna Bay in the afternoon, and to the Coral Lagoon. Other listed experiences include a tour near Popeye Village, a sunrise paddle and mindfulness session from Exiles in Sliema, a dolphin-themed tour from Mistra Bay and even a Doggy SUP Adventure. A three-hour tour is priced at €60.00 in the current listings, and the 90-minute Sunrise Paddle and Mindfulness session at €45.00.
The Sunset Sailing Yoga Experience takes guests aboard a comfortable catamaran from Roland Marina, Pontoon D, in Ta' Xbiex, heading to the south or north of Malta. The trip includes around four hours of sailing, a swim, a yoga and meditation practice as darkness falls, and water, snacks and tea on the way back. Alcohol is not allowed on board. Bring your own mat or towel, a sweater for cooler moments, a swimsuit and a towel.
Meditation, workshops and retreats
Beyond movement classes, the studio runs Breathwork and Meditation sessions and OSHO Dynamic Meditation, which are presented as ways to calm the mind and refocus attention. Workshops give a longer, more specialised look at a theme. Recent listings include a Strength and Flex session on arm balances, inversions and backbends and a Sound Vibration Journey with yoga.
Retreats are part of the offer too, including a Bali Yoga Retreat, alongside a Full Moon Yoga evening. Dates and prices for these are given on the individual pages, so check them before planning your trip around a particular event.
If you are visiting from the UK, the combination of an outdoor class beside the bastions and one of the island's best beaches in Malta is hard to match at home, and it fits neatly alongside other things to do in Malta.
Teacher training courses
Teacher training is a major strand of the business. Courses listed include a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course scheduled for April 2027, a Yin Yoga Teacher Training Course, an Aerial Yoga course, a 50-Hour Foundation Rocket Vinyasa training with Christiane in March 2027, a Meditation and Breathwork course with Geoff, a SUP Yoga Teacher Training course and a 30-hour intensive on hands-on adjustments and assists. Advanced asana and inversion trainings are also offered.
The Foundational Course in Pranayama and Meditation is priced at €200.00, with a €20.00 deposit to reserve a place. For the training courses, the studio asks for a non-refundable deposit to secure a place and full payment one month before the start. To meet Yoga Alliance US requirements, attendance at every module is compulsory, and missed modules must be made up with the teacher at €100 per hour.
Students travelling to Malta are advised to book flexible flights and arrange travel insurance, as the studio does not refund fees for travel disruption. If you are planning that journey, see our guide to flights to Malta.
Booking, cancellations and what to bring
Classes and experiences are booked through the studio's own timetable. For yoga and meditation classes, a cancellation at least six hours ahead is credited to your account for use within a month, while later cancellations are charged in full. For SUP and sailing sessions the notice period is 48 hours, with store credit usable within a month, and a deposit is kept if you cancel later.
Safety comes first on the water: if the weather is poor, the studio decides at least three hours before the start and gives credit for a future session. The studio may also cancel classes with four students or fewer, with at least three hours' notice. The location of a tour can change depending on conditions. Customers are responsible for repair or replacement costs if rental equipment is damaged.
The studio may take photographs and video during sessions for marketing and asks you to say beforehand if you would rather not appear.
