Neptunes Diving Malta is a family-run dive school on the main street of Qawra, Triq il-Turisti, in the St Paul's Bay resort area on the north-east coast. It was founded by Martin and Franca, who welcome new guests to the island, and the aim is to be the friendliest dive centre on the island, with everything a diver needs in one place. The position is easy for holidaymakers, since it is only two minutes on foot from the Bugibba bus terminus.
On VisitMalta.co.uk it is listed in our directory of dive centres in Malta. It welcomes experienced divers, those just starting out and people who simply want a first underwater experience, so a mixed group of friends or a family can usually find something suitable in the same place. Malta, Gozo and Comino together make up the Maltese archipelago in the heart of the Mediterranean, with long, hot summers and short, warm winters.
Recognised by PADI and the tourism authority
The centre is licensed by the Malta Tourism Authority under licence number DVC-18004, and it is a recognised PADI Diving Center under the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. The team has run more than 3,000 PADI courses, and because there is direct access to the sea from anywhere around the island, training can be carried out in safety and comfort whichever side of Malta suits the weather on the day.
Introductory courses for beginners
Never breathed underwater? The PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience lets you try it with an instructor, and can be arranged on any day. Anyone who wants to continue can go on to the PADI Scuba Diver course or the full PADI Open Water Diver qualification. Courses can begin every day of the week, so holidaymakers can fit one into a short stay.
Instructors introduce you to the underwater world step by step, and enquiring first lets you plan around other holiday commitments. Many UK visitors combine learning to dive with beach time, and our Malta weather guide explains what the water and air are like through the year. The islands have long, hot summers and short, warm winters, so the sea is usable for much of it.
Continuing your education
Beyond Open Water, the centre offers the PADI Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses, plus specialty courses to build skills in areas that interest you. Divers can also pair the PADI Emergency First Responder course with the Rescue Diver course, and work towards PADI Master Scuba Diver, the highest non-professional rating. E-learning is available, so some theory can be done before arrival.
Guided dives and going professional
Guided diving around Malta, Gozo and Comino can be arranged every day. The sites include wrecks, swim-throughs and reefs, and rare finds such as seahorses turn up among the marine life. Divers are welcome whichever agency trained them. For ideas on Gozo and Comino, see our Gozo guide and Blue Lagoon guide.
PADI Rescue Divers with 40 logged dives can begin a professional career with the PADI Divemaster course or internship, a route aimed at anyone ready to swap a desk job for the sea.
