New Dimension Scuba is a PADI dive centre in St Paul's Bay, on the north-east coast of Malta, and describes itself as the island's first Eco Dive Centre. It teaches PADI courses from beginner to professional level, runs guided dives for certified divers and sells dive gear through its own shop. The centre is listed in our directories of dive centres in Malta and diving equipment in Malta.
A PADI and Eco dive centre
The centre is a PADI dive centre and the first and only PADI Eco Centre in Malta. That shows in daily practice: a reverse osmosis water cooler offers free drinking water, selected courses and dive packages come with a free insulated reusable bottle, and the Dive Against Debris specialty, priced at €105, teaches divers the skills to remove rubbish from the sea. The centre has also been chosen as a beneficiary of the Cross-Re-Tour Open Innovation Programme, with funding used to cut its environmental impact, including cleaner dive trucks.
Instructors named on the team page include Ben Breakspear, a PADI Master Instructor and Tec 50 instructor with more than ten years of teaching experience, and Susannah Williams, a PADI Staff Instructor with 14 years of diving experience.
Guided dives and packages
Certified divers can book single dives or packs of two, four, six, eight or ten. A single dive is €55. Divers do not need a buddy, because an experienced instructor guides the group, and sites are mixed through the stay. Examples include Ċirkewwa, Għar Lapsi, Anchor Bay, HMS Maori and Żurrieq, and group trips can take in wrecks such as Um El Faroud, P29 and Rozi.
Packages include a PADI guide, road transport to and from the sites, local hotel pick-up if required, cylinders with air or nitrox and weights. Full equipment hire is €25 a day, or €20 a day without a dive computer. Night dives and boat dives are upgrades, depending on numbers and the weather. A deposit of €50 secures your places, and the balance is paid at the centre after the diving. Free hotel pick-up covers Xemxija, St Paul's Bay, Buġibba and Qawra.
Courses
The course menu runs from learn to dive and continuing education to specialties, technical diving, professional training and kids diving. Specialty courses with printed prices include Enriched Air Nitrox at €195, Underwater Navigator at €290, Peak Performance Buoyancy at €275 and Wreck Diver from €325.
Technical divers can choose Tec 40, Tec 45 and Tec 50 at €520 each, and a twinset try dive at €100. Aspiring professionals can take the Divemaster course at €850 or train as instructors. Every diver completes a medical statement online after booking, and nobody can take part in any in-water activity until their fitness to dive has been confirmed. Kids diving is also on the course menu, and free drinking water at the centre means you can refill your bottle before heading out for the day.
Groups, gear and finding the centre
Dive clubs and groups get help with logistics, local transport from the nearby resorts and tailored itineraries, with 10 per cent off diving packages for groups of five to eight divers. The shop sells regulators, masks, fins, dive computers, torches, backplates and wings and branded T-shirts from €25.
The centre is at Tower Place, Triq San Geraldu, St Paul's Bay, just around the corner from Wignacourt Tower. It is a handy base if you are staying in Qawra and Buġibba, and nearby alternatives include Aquatica Scuba Diving. For wider planning, see our guides to things to do in Malta and the Blue Lagoon on Comino. To ask about courses or dives, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the centre.
