Diving with OrangeShark
Malta is mainly a shore diving destination, and most of the centre's certified dives are shore dives, with transport from the centre to the dive sites included in the price. Through the summer it also runs regular boat trips to Comino and to sites around Malta and Gozo, on a boat built for diving, and it offers Gozo day trips. Group sizes are kept small on both courses and fun dives, and divers are grouped by experience and interest.
The centre uses the latest Cressi equipment for hire, and its tanks and rental kit are serviced every year. It is also a distributor of SUEX underwater scooters, known as DPVs, which you can hire to cover more ground on a dive, and it teaches the DPV specialty course on them.
Visitors arriving by yacht or hired boat can drop anchor near Mellieħa and add a dive stop to a sailing itinerary. Our Mellieħa guide and Gozo guide show what lies above the water, and the Blue Lagoon guide covers Comino.
Prices for certified divers
For certified divers the printed shore dive price is €57 for one dive with tanks and weights, or €72 with full equipment. Dive packs bring the cost down: a 10 dive pack is €390 with tanks and weights or €485 with full equipment. All prices include a dive guide and transport to the sites.
Supplements include a boat double dive from €36 for short distances, from €40 for medium and from €44 for long distances, a Gozo trip by ferry and road at €25, a night dive at €15 and nitrox at €5. A snorkelling trip starts at €40. Equipment hire per day includes a full scuba set at €30, a full snorkel set at €20, a computer or torch at €6 each and a scooter at €40.
Courses and training
The centre is a PADI Instructor Development Centre, so it trains divers from entry level to instructor. Course prices include equipment hire, the manual, the certification fee and transport. PADI Discover Scuba Diving, a quick introduction for anyone not ready for certification, starts at €110, and the Bubblemaker programme for 8 to 10 year olds is €80. The PADI Scuba Diver course is €345 and the PADI Open Water Diver course starts at €540.
Continuing education includes the Adventure Diver course at €320, the Advanced Open Water Diver course at €455 and the Rescue Diver course at €420, with Emergency First Response at €180. Specialty courses include Deep, Wreck, Cavern, Sidemount, Night, Navigator, Photographer and Videographer, and dry specialties such as Enriched Air Nitrox at €140. Technical courses run from Discover Tec at €120 and Tec 40 at €520 to Trimix, and professional training includes the PADI IDC.
Why dive in Malta
Malta has more than 70 dive sites over about 280 km of coastline across Malta, Gozo and Comino, including more than 25 wrecks, from First and Second World War ships to vessels sunk deliberately for divers. Visibility can reach 40 metres and the sea can warm to 28 degrees in summer, with no strong currents or tides, which is gentle for first-timers. Wrecks lie between 40 and 80 metres for technical divers. See our Malta weather guide for when to go.
The centre is a Project AWARE partner, takes part in beach and underwater clean-ups, and has been a Green Fins member since 2024. It can arrange Divers Alert Network insurance by the day, week, month or year.
