Physiocare is a physiotherapy clinic in Mosta, in the middle of Malta, offering treatment for pain and injury, rehabilitation after surgery, sports rehabilitation, clinical Pilates, nutrition and strength training under one roof. It opened in 2010 and is led by its owner and head physiotherapist, Pauline Fenech.

For a UK visitor with a niggling sports injury, or someone settling in Malta and looking for a local physiotherapist, the clinic is easy to approach. No doctor's referral is needed to book, and the team works with children, older people, weekend runners and professional athletes alike.

Who is behind the clinic

Physiocare's physiotherapists have backgrounds in the national health service, charities and sports organisations, and the senior physiotherapists have postgraduate training at masters level. The team brings more than twenty years of experience and aims to treat every client with integrity, compassion and care.

Besides Pauline, the physiotherapists are Daniel Azzopardi and Brandon Seychell, and the team also includes three physiotherapists who also teach Pilates, a physical trainer, a nutritionist and a psychotherapist. That range allows the clinic to pass a client between professionals in the same building, and it also communicates with outside doctors, specialists, podiatrists and coaches, or refers people on where needed. There is no clinic fee, and the clinic neither pays nor receives commission for referrals.

Services at Physiocare

The general physiotherapy clinic treats aches, pain and movement problems anywhere in the body, using manual therapy, osteopathic manipulation, acupuncture and electrotherapy such as Tecar, laser, shockwave, muscle stimulation and electromagnetic therapy. It also provides rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery on the spine, shoulder, arm, hand, hip, knee and foot, with tailored exercise programmes.

Sports rehabilitation covers all types of sports injury, including recovery after procedures such as ACL reconstruction, and packages can be arranged for sports teams. Recovery sessions combine sports massage, compression recovery boots, a sauna and ice bath therapy. Running and biomechanical analysis uses camera and digital systems to study how you move, and the clinic also offers running technique coaching.

Clinical Pilates is taught by team members trained in APPI Pilates, in one-to-one sessions and group classes. Nutrition consultations with the registered nutritionist cover assessments, goal setting and monitoring, and physical training offers assessments and customised workout plans. Home visits and onsite training sessions are also available.

Pilates sits inside the rehabilitation process for people with neck and back pain or those easing back into activity, and it is built into early-stage sports rehab to support mobility. The sports side draws on a background in football physical training and strength and conditioning, with guidance on preventing injuries as well as treating them. Nutrition plans can be aimed at weight loss, recovery or athletic performance, and the nutritionist coordinates with the clinic's other services. Physical training programmes suit people who want to lose weight, become more active, build muscle or improve sports performance.

The clinic and how appointments work

The clinic is licensed and registered. It has fully equipped treatment rooms, a rehabilitation and performance gym, a studio and an outdoor training area, along with showering and toilet facilities, free wifi, air conditioning and free parking onsite. Visits start with a conversation about your history and an assessment, followed by an individual treatment plan and continued care towards the goals you agree together. Exercise programmes are guided throughout and progress at your own pace, and the clinic aims to take a client from treatment through rehabilitation to full performance after an injury or an operation.

Opening hours are 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday. The clinic is in Mosta, so visitors staying near Mdina or Rabat will find it close; our Mdina guide covers that part of the island, and our where to stay in Malta page compares the main bases. If you are moving here for longer, the Malta relocation guide explains the wider settling-in picture.

Finding other practitioners and getting in touch
