Preluna Beach Club is the lido and water sports base of the Preluna Hotel, set on the Sliema seafront on Tower Road. It is a classic Maltese summer spot: a large outdoor pool beside the Mediterranean, sunbeds and parasols, a pool bar and a grill restaurant, with water sports in season and scuba diving throughout the year.
For UK visitors who prefer a pool-and-sea day without travelling to a far-off bay, Sliema is a convenient base. The club is listed with the island's water sports operators in Malta on VisitMalta.co.uk.
The lido and pool
The outdoor pool area and lido are open from 1 May to 31 October, weather permitting, and beach towels are provided at the pool. The pool bar serves from June to September. Guests of the Preluna Hotel use the pool area at no charge, and all-inclusive guests can use that arrangement on most items served at the lido, with the menus clearly marked.
If you are not staying at the hotel, ask through our enquiry form about access before planning a day there, and mention your dates and group size. Our Malta weather guide shows how reliably the season suits sunbathing, and our best beaches in Malta guide covers sandy alternatives for when you want more of a shoreline.
Water sports and scuba diving
Water sports run at the Beach Club between May and October, weather permitting. Scuba diving is offered all year round, which is useful for UK divers who want an autumn or winter trip, after the summer water sports have finished for the year. Sliema is among the island's busiest seafront areas, so there is plenty to do on shore between sessions, from promenade walks to shops and cafés.
If you want to compare dive options, the directory also lists the Abyss Diving Club in Buġibba, and if you would rather be on a boat, Adventure Cruises Malta is under a kilometre away. Our things to do in Malta guide has more ideas for active days.
Eating, drinking and spa facilities
The Surf & Turf Grill is the restaurant at the Beach Club. Elsewhere in the hotel are the Skyroom Cocktail Bar & Grill, Sakura Japanese Cuisine and Lounge, Ichiban Japanese Burgers, the Triton Buffet Restaurant and the La Piazza Lobby Bar. Triton serves breakfast from 7:15am to 10:15am, lunch from 12:30pm to 2:00pm and dinner from 6:30pm to 9:15pm daily, while Sakura Japanese Cuisine and Lounge is open from 11:30am to 11:00pm.
The Feel Good Wellness Spa and Gym has an indoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam rooms, all open year round except for about a week around the end of July and start of August. Treatments cost extra. A business centre completes the facilities. If you are looking for somewhere to stay, our hotels in Sliema guide is the place to start.
Location and getting there
The club sits about 500 metres from the centre of Sliema, roughly 3 km from St Julian's, 7.5 km from Valletta and 12 km from Malta International Airport, which is about 20 to 25 minutes by car depending on traffic. The nearest bus stop is called Chalet, and the hotel offers airport transfers at €25 each way for up to three people or €35 each way for four to eight. Parking is available on request at €10 per day, and airport transfers are booked in advance by sending the flight details to the hotel; the driver waits outside the customs area and the cost is added to the hotel bill.
Many visitors combine a lido day with a ferry or walk to the capital, and our Valletta guide explains what to see. Flying from the UK is covered in our flights to Malta guide. To ask about the beach club, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the business.
