Who Revive is and how it began
The centre was launched in 2015 inside Hilltop Gardens. It forms part of AX Care, which works alongside Simblija Care Home and Hilltop Gardens so that residents and outpatients can use physiotherapy services. AX Care draws on a background in hospitality and a strong focus on family values.
The aim is to improve well-being and help people keep their independence. Treatments are personalised and cover musculoskeletal, neurological, orthopaedic, geriatric, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, among other needs. Four physiotherapists are named on the team: Giulia Dimech, Francesca Bonnici, Elaine Abela and Martina Ferrante. Francesca is the senior physiotherapist with a special interest in women's health and leads the Aquanatal classes, while Elaine focuses on geriatric rehabilitation and Martina on musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and sports injury work. Giulia treats patients in outpatient and care-home settings and leads Aquafitness. Three instructors lead the Pilates programme, bringing experience in geriatrics, ante and post-natal work, pelvic floor and osteoporosis classes, and in making sessions accessible to people with chronic pain or who are recovering from surgery.
Physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and rehabilitation
One-to-one physiotherapy sessions take place with a therapist who uses the centre's equipment to build a plan around your goals. Evening sessions have been introduced for people who prefer to come after work. The hydrotherapy pool offers guided one-to-one sessions as well as independent sessions, and individual or couple memberships give unlimited pool access. Booking is done online by choosing a service, up to three preferred therapists and days, and a time.
Post-operative physiotherapy is designed to complement a rehabilitative stay at Simblija Care Home. Group sports recovery sessions use compression boots, contrast baths and the hydrotherapy pool to help with fatigue and athletic performance. Which treatment suits you is something to agree with the physiotherapist you see.
Classes for all ages
The class programme is led by physiotherapists and instructors and includes Pilates for all levels, Pilates for osteoporosis, Pilates for 60 plus, HIIT Pilates and a falls prevention programme. In the pool there are warm-water Aquafitness classes, Aquanatal classes for expectant mothers and parent and baby swimming. Dance classes for seniors are led by a Royal Academy of Dance certified instructor. Classes are timetabled across the week, from early-morning Pilates to evening Aquanatal, with weekend Pilates, Aquafitness and seniors' dance sessions.
Printed prices are €17 for one Aquafitness class or €75 for five, €15 for one Aquanatal class or €60 for five, and €15 for one Pilates class or €130 for ten. Seniors' dance classes are €12 for one class or €100 for ten. The Pilates instructors include Carolyn Cassano, Samantha Bonnici and Dorianne Cauchi, who is also a physiotherapist.
