RHD Dentistry and Implantology is a private dental clinic in a central location in Paola. It is led by Dr Robert Hewitt, who opened his own practice in Paola in 1997, and the premises were completely refurbished in 2014. The clinic focuses on modern equipment and on getting good results in less time and with more comfort.

On VisitMalta.co.uk the clinic appears in our directory of dentists in Malta. For visitors it makes a handy stop, since it sits just metres from the Hypogeum of Ħal Saflieni, one of Malta's best-known prehistoric sites.

Treatments

Routine care covers dental and oral check-ups, several kinds of X-ray including panoramic and 3D cone beam CT scans, fluoride therapy, fissure sealing, scaling and polishing, composite and amalgam fillings, extractions and oral cancer screening. Dental emergencies such as swelling, toothache and injuries after accidents are listed as a service in their own right.

Cosmetic and restorative work includes whitening, veneers, Lumineers, Snap-On Smile, ceramic restorations, inlays and onlays, tooth jewellery, composites and root canal treatment. Crowns and bridges can be made in acrylic, porcelain fused to metal or all-ceramic, and removable dentures come in acrylic or chrome, with precision attachments available.

Oral implantology includes denture stabilisation, fixed replacement of teeth, bone augmentation and computer guided implant placement. An implant is an artificial tooth root, usually titanium, placed under local anaesthesia to support a crown, bridge or denture. Gum care ranges from deep scaling to periodontal surgery, and oral surgery covers wisdom teeth, retained roots, cysts and apicectomy. Orthodontics offers removable, fixed, clear and functional appliances, and a section for young patients covers milk teeth and fissure sealants.

The team

Dr Robert Hewitt graduated in dental surgery from the University of Malta in 1992 and has added training in implant dentistry, periodontal surgery and digital workflows in Malta, London, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy. He is a member of the Dental Association of Malta and of international implant and cosmetic dentistry societies.

Orthodontics is handled by two specialists, Dr Erica Sultana Scerri and Dr Brenda Lee Cutajar. The dentists also include Dr David Schembri, Dr Roberto Cutajar and Dr Amanda Tabone, and Ms Maria Roxana Visan works as a dental hygienist. Dental assistants Ms Alishia Darmanin, Ms Natasha Muscat and Ms Ramona Saliba support the clinical team, and Ms Darmanin is usually the first contact for patients and prepares cost plans and estimates.

Facilities, languages and access

The clinic has a relaxing waiting area with background music, plenty of natural light and treatment rooms with a garden view. It is fully accessible for people with disabilities and older patients, and free Wi-Fi is provided. Facilities also include digital X-ray, an intra-oral camera, photography and a defined sterilisation practice.

The team speaks English, Maltese and Italian fluently and understands German, Spanish, Arabic and French, which helps visitors who are nervous about treatment in a foreign country. A recall system sends reminders about cleaning and check-ups by post, email or phone, with a telephone reminder the day before an appointment.

The clinic works with general practitioners, orthodontists, oral surgeons and other specialists, and with dental technicians it has cooperated with since 1992.
