Sea Life Cruises is a family-run Maltese boat operator based at Ċirkewwa, the northern ferry and boating point in Mellieħa. Its trips are aimed at visitors who want to see Comino, the Blue Lagoon and the coast of Gozo from the water, without joining a crowded excursion vessel. Groups are limited to 25 passengers, and the crew point out sights and tell you about the islands as you go.
The operator offers three kinds of trip: a half day join-in tour, a sunset cruise and a private charter. You can compare similar operators in our directories of boat charter in Malta and tour operators in Malta.
The Gozo and Comino half day tour
The half day tour costs from €30 per person and lasts about four hours, or three hours between October and December. You step aboard a small boat with at most 25 guests and cruise along Comino's shore, entering sea caves including the Santa Maria Caves. There are stops for a 30 minute swim at the Crystal Lagoon and an hour at the Blue Lagoon, which our Blue Lagoon guide describes in more detail. In the warmer months there is a further 30 minute stop at St Maria Bay.
You can swim straight from the boat or go ashore at each stop. The route also heads towards Gozo for a photo stop at Mġarr Harbour, and passes the Elephant Head Rock on the way back. From October to December the St Maria Bay stop and the Elephant Head Rock view are left out. If you want to see more of the sister island, our Gozo guide is a good companion.
Sunset cruise and private charter
The sunset tour leaves at 5.15pm and costs from €25 per person. It lasts three hours, or two and a half hours from late August to September, and visits the Crystal Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon in the golden evening light, with a cruise past sea caves and the Elephant Head Rock. It is a quieter option, with cooler air and fewer people at the stops, though the stop at Gozo Harbour is not part of it.
For a private charter, the boat takes up to seven passengers for three hours around Gozo and Comino, from €249 per group, with a choice of departure times. It suits families or friends who want the itinerary to themselves.
What is included and what to bring
Each tour includes sightseeing, swimming noodle floats, an onboard toilet, an experienced crew and live commentary. Life jackets are on board for emergencies, and you can ask the crew for one if you want to wear it during the trip. Snorkelling gear can be hired for €5, and food and drinks are not included, so bring your own or buy them at the beach stops. Towels are not provided.
Pack sunscreen, a sunhat, sunglasses, beachwear, a camera and some cash, because card payments are not accepted on the boat. Since 1 May 2025 a free QR code pass is required to step on to the Blue Lagoon, as Maltese law requires, and you obtain it online before you travel. High heels, large luggage and bags, and non-folding strollers are not allowed, and the crew cannot take passengers who are intoxicated.
