Yoga Malta runs guided stand-up paddleboard tours of the Blue Grotto coast near Qrendi on the south of Malta, alongside yoga, meditation, sunset sailing yoga and teacher training courses. The three-hour Blue Grotto paddle includes a lesson, a board and a life jacket, and the team also teaches in Sliema, Msida and on Manoel Island. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.
Yoga Malta is a small teaching studio with a strong outdoor side. Its best-known day out for visitors is the three-hour paddleboard tour around the Blue Grotto, the line of sea caves and arches on the south coast of the island near Qrendi. You paddle from cave to cave, stop for a swim or a snorkel, and come back having seen one of Malta’s most photographed stretches of coastline from the water rather than from a viewing platform.
Beyond the tour, the same team teaches yoga, meditation and breathwork in Sliema, Msida and on Manoel Island, runs a sunset sailing yoga trip on a catamaran, and trains new teachers. On VisitMalta.co.uk it sits in our directories of water sports in Malta and yoga studios in Malta, so you can compare it with other activity providers before you book.
The Blue Grotto paddleboard tour
The tour lasts three hours and starts at 7:00 am, finishing around 10:00 am, which keeps you on the water in the calmest, coolest part of the morning. The price printed for the Blue Grotto tour is €60.00 per person. The sessions begin with a friendly briefing on the basics: how to hold the paddle, how to move from sitting to standing, how to climb back on after a splash, and the safety points that matter in open water. Nobody needs to arrive as an expert.
Once everyone is steady, the group paddles around Blue Grotto Bay and into a series of caves. Each trip visits different spots depending on the weather, usually between four and six, with chances to swim and snorkel along the way. The limestone here is pale, sheer and full of arches, and the water is clear enough that you can see the seabed from the board. If you want to know more about the landmark itself, our guide to the Blue Grotto covers the viewpoint above the caves and the other things nearby.
The price includes an introductory lesson and briefing, a paddleboard, a life jacket and the safety measures set by the team. Boards are matched to your weight, so you are asked to note your weight when you book. Bring a swimsuit, water, a hat, sun cream and a mask, and take a waterproof phone case or action camera at your own risk if you want photographs. Please note that this tour does not include yoga, and that the equipment is rented, so you are responsible for repair or replacement if you damage it.
Other paddle sessions and sailing yoga
The Blue Grotto trip is one of several water experiences on the programme. A three-hour tour also runs from Gnejna Bay in the afternoon, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the same printed price of €60.00, and further tour experiences run at Coral Lagoon, Popeye Village, Mistra Bay (an outing with a chance of dolphins) and a dog-friendly paddle. If you are planning a day around the north-west of the island, our guide to Popeye Village explains what else to see in the bay.
For something calmer, the Sunrise Paddle and Mindfulness session at Sliema runs from 6:30 am to 7:45 am and costs €45.00. It combines gentle paddling with mindful breathing as the day begins. SUP yoga goes a step further: you practise yoga postures on the board itself, which tests balance and concentration. It suits beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
The sailing option is a sunset yoga cruise on a catamaran from Roland Marina in Ta’ Xbiex, heading to the south or north of Malta. It lasts four hours and includes a swim, a yoga and meditation practice as the stars come out, and water, snacks and tea on the way back (alcohol is not allowed on board). Bring your own mat or towel, a sweater and a swimsuit. If you would rather see Malta from a larger vessel, take a look at Adventure Cruises Malta in our boat charter directory.
Yoga and meditation classes
On land, Yoga Malta teaches classes several times a day, rooted in classical Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Yin traditions. All classes are open to every level, and teachers offer modifications so that a first-timer and a seasoned student can share a room. The timetable includes Hatha Vinyasa flow on Manoel Island, Yin Yang yoga, sunrise Power yoga in Sliema, beach yoga at Riviera and Yin yoga at the Msida studio. A standard class on the schedule costs €17.00.
Meditation has its own strand, with breathwork sessions and Osho Dynamic Meditation, and the studio also runs workshops that go deeper into a single theme such as arm balances, inversions and backbends, or a sound vibration journey. Many of the outdoor classes take place on terraces and shoreline with views toward Valletta, which gives a practice session a very Maltese backdrop. Our Valletta guide is a good companion if you want to pair a morning class with an afternoon in the capital.
Cancellation terms differ by activity. For yoga classes you can cancel up to 48 hours before the start time and receive store credit to use within a month. Later cancellations lose the deposit. The team may cancel a class with four students or fewer, giving at least three hours’ notice, and offers credit for a future class.
Teacher training and courses
Yoga Malta also serves people who want to teach. The training programme includes a 200-hour professional yoga teacher training course, a Yin yoga teacher training led by Merve, an aerial yoga course, a meditation and breathwork course led by Geoff, a Rocket yoga course led by Christiane, a SUP yoga teacher training course and a 30-hour hands-on adjustments and assists training. Dates published on the site run from late November 2026 into spring and summer 2027.
The booking rules are firm and worth reading before you commit. A non-refundable deposit reserves a place, full payment is due one month before the start, and attendance of every module is compulsory to meet Yoga Alliance US requirements. A shorter course, the foundational course in pranayama and meditation, is printed at €200.00 with a €20.00 deposit. Travel to the venue is the student’s own responsibility, so the team advises flexible flights and travel insurance.
If you are weighing up a longer stay in Malta for training, our things to do in Malta guide and the weather guide for each month help you choose when to come.
Planning your visit
The paddle tours depend on the sea, so the plan can change. The team decides on the day whether conditions are safe, and a class cancelled for bad weather is announced at least three hours before the start with credit for a later session. The meeting place for a tour may also move, which is why a working WhatsApp number is requested at booking.
The south coast sits near some of Malta’s oldest sites. If you are pairing the tour with sightseeing, the temples at Ħaġar Qim are only a few minutes from the Blue Grotto, and our directory has a page for the Ħaġar Qim archaeological site. For swimming days after your paddle, read our list of the best beaches in Malta. Travelling from Britain is straightforward, and our guide to flights to Malta from the UK lists the main routes.
