Using buses in Malta
Malta's buses reach almost every town and beach on the island, and most routes start from or pass through the Valletta terminus outside City Gate. From Malta International Airport, the Airport Direct buses run straight to Valletta, Sliema and St Julian's, Buġibba and Qawra, Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa for the Gozo ferry. Our Malta Airport guide covers every route from the terminal, and our guide to public transport in Malta explains tickets and travel cards.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Malta journey planner work?
Type where you are starting from and where you want to go: the airport, a town, a hotel, a beach, a sight or a bus stop, or tap Near me to use your location. The planner searches every Malta Public Transport route and timetable for the day and time you choose and shows the best bus journeys, with where to board, the number of stops, where to get off, any change of bus and the walk at each end. It also shows taxi, ride-hailing, car, cycling and walking options.
Where do the bus times come from?
The times come from the published timetables on the Malta Public Transport website, covering all of its routes, and the stop positions come from OpenStreetMap. Times are scheduled times, so buses can run a few minutes early or late in traffic. For live arrival times at a stop, use the tallinja app from Malta Public Transport.
How much is a bus fare in Malta?
A single day fare is 2.50 euros in summer and 2 euros in winter, with winter fares running from 18 October 2026 to 12 June 2027. Yes. Malta Taxi is the official taxi service at the airport, with fixed fares per car paid at the desk in arrivals. Across the islands, Bolt, Uber and the Maltese firm eCabs operate through their apps, and prices change with demand. The planner has buttons to open these apps with your journey.
