Pizza4U is a family business on Schembri Street in Mile End, the corner of Ħamrun where it began trading in 2007. It works as a takeaway and delivery kitchen first, but there is also an outdoor area where you can sit down and eat, and the menu has grown well beyond pizza to pasta, salads, grills and kebabs. Our page on restaurants in Ħamrun lists other places to eat in the town.

From a corner shop to Mile End

Pizza4U started as a family idea and opened its first unit, a small corner shop in Ħamrun handling takeaway and delivery, in 2007. Two years there met with an encouraging response from customers, and demand for the pizzas grew quickly enough that the family needed more space. The business moved to larger premises on Schembri Street in Mile End, still in Ħamrun, so that it could keep up with orders and serve customers more efficiently.

Pizzas, pasta and the wider menu

Pizza is made on fresh dough, and a gluten-free dough is available as an alternative. The newer Cheesy Crust pizza is sold from Monday to Friday only. Pasta comes in the shapes most people ask for, spaghetti, penne and tortellini, and the kitchen's own photos show a penne in a creamy tomato sauce finished with a prawn. Our page on pizza restaurants in Malta compares other pizzerias across the island.

The rest of the menu is broad: platters, wraps, burgers, fish and chips, Turkish kebab, salads, grilled meat and Chinese dishes all have their own sections. The Southern fried chicken pieces are halal, which is useful for Muslim visitors. Photos from the kitchen show plated salads with chicken, salmon, tuna and seafood, a double burger stacked with onion rings, and glazed ribs with chips.

Collection, delivery and eating in

There are three ways to get your food: collect it, have it delivered, or eat at the outdoor area on site, a side of the business that goes by the name Dine 4U. Online ordering on the Pizza4U website covers both pick-up and delivery. The team aims to serve everyone promptly, but it is best to place your order ahead of time, especially at weekends when the kitchen is at its busiest. Opening hours and prices are not published online, so check them when you order. Our page on Novi Burger in Gżira covers a nearby burger specialist.

Around Ħamrun

Ħamrun is a town in Malta's Southern Region, home to 10,514 people in November 2021, and it lies a short way from Valletta, which our Valletta guide covers in full. The Holy Trinity Parish Church in neighbouring Marsa is about 450 metres from Pizza4U. Tas-Samra Battery, about 550 metres away, was one of the gun positions Maltese insurgents raised during the French blockade of 1798 to 1800, part of a ring around the French in Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour. The Parish Church of St Cajetan of Thiene, about 600 metres away, was built between 1869 and 1875 to designs by Giorgio Costantino Schinas, with an oratory added in the 1890s and a dome by Andrea Vassallo in the 1950s. Two more insurgent positions from the same blockade, Jesuit Hill Battery and the small Marsa Battery at the foot of the hill, were about 600 metres and 850 metres away. Villa Guardamangia, the Pietà townhouse where Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip lived between 1949 and 1951, is about 650 metres away.
