AldoPics

AldoPics is a portrait and event photography studio in Salina, Naxxar, run by photographer Aldo Cauchi Savona. It covers weddings, couple and family sessions, maternity and newborn shoots, graduations, actor and business headshots, and company events, with prices published for the main sessions.

For UK visitors the appeal is a relaxed, guided approach for people who say they hate being photographed, set against Malta's light and its old stone streets. The studio sits within our directory of photography studios in Malta.

The photographer and his approach

Aldo has worked as a professional photographer since 2012, first with other photography companies across commercial, product, portrait, event and wedding work. In 2017 he launched AldoPics as a studio focused on photographing people. His method leans on communication and an understanding of how people feel in front of a lens, so that clients are guided with simple prompts rather than stiff, static poses.

The studio is a home studio, chosen to keep sessions relaxed, and it is fitted with modern LED lighting and props. A makeup artist or other assistant can be brought in when a shoot needs one, and retouching and fine-art composite editing are available. Sessions can also take place outdoors or at a location of your choice in Malta or Gozo, so a guest staying near Golden Bay or in Gozo, covered by our guide to Gozo, need not travel back to Naxxar.

Weddings and celebrations

Wedding photography is documentary in style with creative portraits added, for ceremonies in a church, a registry office, a private villa or by the sea. Three packages are published, all priced including VAT. Wedding Moments is €495 for intimate weddings and civil ceremonies, with up to four hours of coverage, up to an hour of portraits, more than 400 edited images and 40 retouched photos printed at 5 by 7 inches.

Wedding Day is €995 and covers up to eight hours from ceremony to reception, with more than 700 edited images and 80 retouched, printed photos. Wedding Story is €1,450 for up to twelve hours from morning preparations to the final dance, with more than 1,000 edited images, 120 retouched photos, 120 prints and an A3 fine-art print.

Extras include a second photographer from €75 an hour, a female second photographer who covers the bride's preparations, a sub-contracted videographer at €140 an hour and a 60-leaf wedding album at €25. Extra hours with Aldo cost €105 an hour on Wedding Day and €90 on Wedding Story. Images are supplied without watermarks and delivered digitally, usually within one to four weeks. Couples, maternity and family sessions

Couple portrait sessions suit anniversaries, proposals or simply time together. The shoot is built around how the two of you interact, avoiding forced romance. Rates are €75 for five edited photos with prints, €120 for twelve photos and up to two looks, and €200 for more than 150 photos from the session with twenty edited and up to three looks. Pregnancy photography is priced identically at €75, €120 and €200, with more than 50, 90 or 150 photos from the session and five, twelve or twenty retouched. Around 28 to 34 weeks is suggested as the best moment, when the bump shows but you are still comfortable. Partners and children are welcome.

Family work also covers newborn sessions, best in the first two weeks, children's portraits, pet portraits, baptisms and private family events. Graduation portraits and boudoir photography are offered too, with sessions paced to the client's comfort.

Headshots for actors and professionals

Actor headshots come in three levels: €65 for a 15 to 30 minute session with five edited portraits and up to two looks, €95 for 30 to 45 minutes with twelve and up to three looks, and €145 for 45 to 60 minutes with twenty edited portraits, more than 100 photos and up to four looks. Wardrobe and expression tips are sent beforehand.

Business headshots follow the same structure and the same prices of €65, €95 and €145, with five, twelve or twenty fully retouched portraits. Corporate and event photography

For companies, the studio offers business portraits, team portraits, conference and corporate event coverage and staff party photography. The aim is to show real interactions, speakers, networking and the atmosphere of the occasion, so that the pictures keep promoting the event afterwards. Small businesses, consultants and larger teams are all served, and a bespoke brief can be agreed for projects that fit none of the standard sessions.
