Anaca Photography is a team of professional photographers based in Nadur, on the island of Gozo, who cover weddings, events and family occasions across Gozo, Comino and Malta. The photographers aim to tell the story of each occasion and to capture people as they really are. The team has more than 35 years of photography experience and is award winning.
If you are planning a wedding in the Maltese islands, a christening or a family holiday portrait, this is a local studio that knows the churches, coastlines and viewpoints well. The team also serves companies, from conferences to team portraits. Tell us what you need through the enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the team.
Who is behind the camera
Anthony is the principal photographer. He started at the age of 14 with a basic Minolta film camera bought with his first pay packet, and moved into professional work in the late nineties. His favourite subjects are sport and weddings. His son Darren became interested in photography at the age of 11, after a visit to an open day at the former Marsa power station, where his father handed him a basic Nikon. Darren now shoots weddings, family sessions and concerts, and also takes an interest in videography and programming.
The business also keeps to some practical commitments. Paperwork such as contracts and invoices is digital, forms and emails are gender neutral, everyone is welcome, and the team regularly donates photography and expertise to youth centres, environmental groups and other community causes.
Weddings in Gozo and Malta
Wedding photography is the heart of the work. The team has covered hundreds of weddings in Gozo, including destination and intimate ceremonies, and offers packages that can be adapted to each couple. Add-ons include a pre-wedding shoot, an engagement session, surprise proposal photography, drone photography, printing, and photo books and albums. Guest photos can be uploaded to an online gallery for everyone to view at no extra charge. On Gozo, if you are looking for a venue or accommodation, see our Gozo guide and hotels in Gozo.
For planning, the team suggests a pre-wedding shoot around three months before the day, and no later than early spring if you want green scenery, since Maltese summers are dry. The team works under a written contract, which defines the service, the payment terms and what is expected from both sides. Meeting the photographer before you decide is encouraged, and portfolios of earlier weddings can be shown at the consultation. On the day, a second location is usually chosen in case the weather turns, and in sunny Malta a shady spot or time is preferred so the couple stay comfortable. Allow about 60 to 90 minutes for getting-ready shots, 30 to 40 minutes for the couple's session, ideally before the ceremony, and around 20 minutes for family groups, working from the largest group down. Posed photos are best kept to about 20 minutes. For anything beyond a simple wedding, two photographers are recommended: one to document the traditional shots, the other to catch the emotion of the day.
Delivery is around 50 photographs per hour of coverage, with preview images shared within hours of the ceremony, editing usually completed within a week and the full collection typically delivered around a month after the wedding. Photos are chosen and edited to a consistent standard, so test shots, duplicates and unflattering frames are removed rather than supplied. Fresh flowers can come from Alistair Floral Design, another florist in our directory.
Family, faith and milestone shoots
Beyond weddings, the studio photographs baptisms, First Holy Communions, confirmations, graduations, maternity sessions, engagements, pre-wedding shoots, anniversaries and couple sessions, either on location at a scenic spot or in its studios. Parents choosing a communion or confirmation session can have it as a quick, relaxed shoot at a scenic location, or in the studio. Sessions can be done in the custom built studio or outside, and maternity sessions usually last around an hour at a scenic location in Gozo or Malta.
Couples celebrating an anniversary in Gozo can book a photo shoot at scenic spots such as Dwejra. The team also offers photo book design and printing, and publishes guides on churches approved for weddings and baptisms in Gozo and on communion shoot locations. For ideas on locations across the islands, see our things to do in Malta page and the Comino and Blue Lagoon guide, as the team can also cover weddings on Comino, including beach ceremonies at Santa Marija and a small wedding at the tower.
Christmas studio shoots
Each year the studio in Nadur builds a Christmas set. The 2026 theme is a golden winter wonderland with snowy trees, a streetscape and a rustic door. Sessions suit newborns, children, couples, grandparents and whole families, and pets are welcome if you tell the team beforehand. The studio is fully accessible.
Packages range from €50 to €150. The base package includes a 30 minute session with all good photos, usually 50 to 75, delivered through a password protected online gallery within 10 days. Express delivery within 72 hours, and an extra 15 minutes of shooting, can be added for a fee. Every package includes all your photos in high resolution without logos, and printed or digital postcards are available. Neutral colours and earthy tones are suggested for clothing. Slots fill quickly, so enquire early.
Corporate, event and property photography
Anaca Photography works with local companies, international corporations and multinationals. Corporate and team photography is a large part of the business, with brands and businesses among its main clients. The aim is to deliver a message through well planned, well edited images that support a company's brand. Corporate work includes conferences, workshops, team portraits, book launches and concerts, with live photo transfer, captioning and 360 degree photography available. The team also photographs properties for sellers and agents, which helps a listing stand out and supports a faster sale.
For businesses looking for another photographer, our photography studios directory lists more options, including the AldoPics photography profile.
How the team works
Every booking begins with a briefing in person, online or by phone, before contracts and deposits, so the photographers understand your ideas. A photographer often visits the location the day before, and the team decides in advance which photographers and which lenses and focal lengths will suit the venue. On the day the team arrives early, uses natural light where possible and adds flash, LED lights, reflectors and diffusers when needed, and shares sample images as you go. The team uses professional Nikon cameras, including the D5 and D850, shooting in RAW with backup copies of every file.
Editing is done in Lightroom with a light touch, covering cropping, levelling and exposure rather than heavy changes. Final photos are exported at the sizes you need and sent as a quick preview first, then supplied with the high resolution files on a pen drive or external hard disk. Photos are shot, edited and processed so that they carry your message as an individual, a family or a business.
