If you are comparing gyms in the area, our directory of gyms in Malta lists others.
The Marsa club and the group behind it
Best Gyms Malta was founded by Antoine Micallef, a former bodybuilder, international IFBB judge and Vice President of IFBB Malta, with the aim of making fitness accessible to everyone. From that first gym the group has grown into a chain of clubs from Tal-Qroqq and Pembroke to Birkirkara, Mosta, Kirkop, Sliema and Birżebbuġa, and a Birgu club is on its way.
All of the clubs share one All Access Membership, billed as 10 gyms on one pass, so a Marsa member can also train at the other clubs. Marsa is billed as the group's biggest club, and the group offers a 360 degree virtual tour so that you can look around before you visit. A free trial pass is also advertised for newcomers.
Facilities at the Marsa club
The Marsa club has a freeweight area and a strength zone built around pin loaded machines, which let you change the load with a pin rather than by adding plates. A cardio area holds the treadmills and bikes, and a functional area gives room for circuits and conditioning work. The Hyrox area is laid out for Hyrox style training, with a marked sled lane, and the boxing area includes a ring.
A spinning area hosts the indoor cycling classes. Practical comforts include showers, lockers, parking and free wifi, and every club has cleaning and sanitising stations. Members must bring their own towel, and the clubs are open to anyone aged 14 or over.
Classes and personal training
Group classes run across the clubs on a shared timetable that covers all locations. Functional training and HIIT sessions are held at 6.30 AM, spinning at 7.00 AM and 8.10 AM, and functional training in the evening at 6.00 PM and 7.30 PM. The class pages show fitness classes at €10 for members and €12.50 for guests, and spinning classes at €13 for members and €16 for guests. The spinning coach is a former UFC coach, and classes are listed as a place to build cardio stamina, agility and strength.
Certified personal trainers write customised plans based on your goals, fitness level and lifestyle, and sessions can be arranged at the front desk. The benefits the group lists include a personal plan, weight loss, toned muscles, better focus, more energy and new friendships. Gym guidance from staff is included for every member.
