BLEND is a production and post-production studio in Malta, created by Marley Lagana and part of the Black Lake Pictures group. The studio was established in 2010 and describes its job simply: it develops, shoots, edits and delivers films, documentaries, series and commercials, made in Malta, for cinema, broadcast and every screen.
On VisitMalta.co.uk the studio is listed in our directory of video production companies in Malta. For UK brands, producers and agencies, that means a single local team handling everything from script to finished master.
The four-stage method
Every BLEND production follows the same four stages, all run in-house, so a project is not handed off half-finished. Development turns an idea into a project: story and script, treatment and structure, casting and crew, budget, schedule and financing. Production is the shoot itself, covering locations, permits, crew, cast and kit.
Post-production is where the story finds its rhythm, with editing, colour grading, sound design and mix, music, motion graphics, titles and subtitles. Delivery then formats the finished work for where it will play: broadcast and cinema masters, streaming and festival deliverables, clean and textless versions, and platform-ready cutdowns. If you are shooting from the UK, this one-team approach saves coordinating several suppliers.
Films, series and documentaries
The studio's own productions include the drama series PRN, with a first and second season of 13 episodes each, and the factual series Taste, also 13 episodes, from 2024. Earlier work includes the documentary Il-Mixja in 2021, the travel series Roadway in 2017 and the paranormal series L-Oskur, one season running to 26 episodes. A thriller series is in production and a sports series is in post-production, so the studio is busy with new work as well as its back catalogue.
Malta's mix of old stone streets, harbours and coast gives film makers plenty of settings. Our Valletta city guide, guide to Gozo, Three Cities guide and Popeye Village page show the kind of locations producers can explore.
Why work with a Maltese studio
Working with a studio that develops, shoots and finishes in the same place means the film that reaches the screen is the one planned on day one. A UK company launching a product, a charity making an awareness film or a producer needing local crew and post-production can brief one team rather than several.
The range of formats matters too. The same studio that makes long-form series, running to 13 or 26 episodes, also cuts short adverts, such as a 75 second advert, and teasers. Ask about cutdowns for social platforms if your campaign needs several lengths from one shoot.
Commercial work
BLEND makes event films, adverts, brand and fashion films, and music videos. Events have included a facade lighting inauguration for the Ministry for Energy and Water, Saving Our Blue for the Oceanography Malta Group at the University of Malta, and anniversary and company films for Frank Salt, Zarb Coaches and Apcopay Sigima.
Adverts and campaign films for brands and public bodies include Primavera, Chemimart, Alberta, the EUPA board game teaser and a series of domestic violence awareness adverts. The studio has also made music videos for Maltese and international artists and collaborated with other studios on productions such as Supranational.
Planning a shoot in Malta
If you are travelling for a shoot, see flights to Malta, where to stay in Malta and hotels across Malta, and browse things to do in Malta for ideas. Anyone relocating to work on productions can read our Malta relocation guide. Before you write, decide what you want to make and roughly when you need it. Tell the studio whether you want a film, documentary, series, commercial or campaign. Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the studio.
