Carisma Spa at Ramla Bay Resort

Carisma Spa & Wellness at Ramla Bay Resort is the north coast outpost of one of Malta's best-known spa groups, located inside the resort on Triq Ir-Ramla in Mellieħa. It is a good option for UK holidaymakers staying in the north who want a proper treatment and a few hours in warm water without travelling to the St Julian's side of the island, and it welcomes visitors who are not staying at the hotel.

The brand has Turkish roots and began in 1990, rooted in the traditions of the hammam, and it came to Malta in 2010. The group now runs eight spas on the island, and this branch appears in our directory of spas in Malta.

Facilities at the Ramla Bay branch

The facilities listed for this location are an indoor pool, a traditional Turkish bath, indoor and outdoor jacuzzis, a sauna, a bucket shower, a relaxing room, a couple's massage room and outdoor sunbeds. The outdoor jacuzzi and sunbeds are a pleasant extra in warmer months, and the Turkish bath is a rarity among Malta's hotel spas.

Longer treatments include free use of the spa facilities, while express sessions come with three hours of access. The spa provides robes, towels and slippers, and guests are asked to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before an appointment to settle in. The branch is open from 10:00 to 20:00, every day of the week including public holidays.

Massages, hammam and facials

The massage menu covers hot stone, Indian Ayurvedic, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Balinese, Thai, Japanese shiatsu, deep tissue, anti-stress and therapeutic sessions, along with a long signature massage that combines several techniques and ends with detox tea. Full treatments run from 55 to 110 minutes and start from €99, and 30-minute express options such as face and décolleté, Indian head massage and foot reflexology start from €59. Deep tissue starts from €109.

The Turkish hammam is a traditional ritual of steam, an exfoliating scrub and a foam massage on a warm marble platform, with deluxe and package versions that add masks, facials or a massage. The deluxe version runs for 75 minutes and adds a hydrating face and body mask and a hair care treatment, and shorter hammam extras such as a sea salt exfoliation or a foam massage include three hours of facility use. Facials use Phytomer marine skincare from France, and the therapists are trained by the brand, with HydraFacial also on the menu.

Packages, memberships and gifts

Packages include spa days, couple's and spa party options, and after-work sessions of 25 or 50 minutes, which are available from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memberships give access to the thermal facilities across the group's Maltese spas, and gift vouchers can be sent by email for a set amount or a specific treatment. The shorter option focuses on areas such as the back, neck and shoulders, tired legs or a quick facial, while the longer one offers lymphatic drainage, stress relief, deep tissue or muscle recovery massage, and both come with tea and a small spa kit. Groups of four or more can receive a discount.

Booking ahead by a day or two is recommended for weekends and couple's packages, although walk-ins are welcome when there is space.
