What the club offers

The winter programmes for 2025 to 2026 list Sibt Sport, held in Mtarfa or Paola; volleyball from the under 15 age group upward; basketball from under 8s upward; and gymnastics fundamentals. A separate Fundamentals Sports programme, for ages 3 to 10, introduces younger children to a mix of sports. A basketball nursery and a volleyball winter programme are also advertised, and places on some programmes are limited, so early registration is advisable.

Basketball sessions are held on parquet flooring, as international standards require, and the club keeps investing in its facilities and equipment. Athletes can join age-group teams in the national leagues run by the Malta Basketball Association, take part in training camps in Malta and abroad and train with visiting foreign coaches. The club has won honours locally and internationally and has players in national teams at several levels.

A summer school runs in the school holidays. For families visiting for part of the summer, it is worth asking about dates through our form, and the Malta weather guide shows what the summer months are like.

Coaches, safeguarding and values

Depiro employs only professionally qualified coaches and invests in their continuing training. The aims for the nursery are to promote good practice, instil a love of sport in general and help athletes develop as people as well as players. Skills such as teamwork, resilience, time management, handling pressure, sportsmanship and leadership are treated as part of the training alongside technique and tactics.

Depiro is a voluntary, non-profit organisation registered with the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector under the number VO 1825, and it is recognised by SportMalta as a Sports Entity under SM 009 C. Its financial accounts are independently audited every year, and any surplus is reinvested in programmes, equipment and facilities.

Membership and volunteering

Everyone is welcome to join, whatever their age, background or sporting ability. The club offers individual, couple and family membership. Membership lasts for twelve months from October to September and can be taken out online or at the club office. Members aged 18 and over can vote and stand for election to the committee, which serves on a voluntary basis, and the Board of Directors is elected by members every three years.
