HiTT Academy Malta is a dedicated table tennis training centre in Tal-Ibragg, in Swieqi. It combines a coaching academy with a competitive club, and it welcomes children, adults, complete beginners and experienced players. If you play at a club in the UK and want to keep your game going on holiday, or you are moving to Malta and looking for a sport to join, this is a straightforward place to start.

The academy appears in our directory of sports clubs in Malta, alongside other places to train and play.

The coach and the club

HiTT Academy was founded in 2013 by Mario Genovese, who is its head coach. His coaching career began in Denmark in 1984, and he holds ITTF Level 2 coaching certification. He was also appointed to lead the 2019 South Asian training camp in New Delhi. That international background shapes how the academy works, with training built around the individual player rather than a single fixed programme.

The club's results are strong. Its team secured a seventh consecutive Malta First Division title in 2025, and HiTT players took national titles and podium places at the 2025 Junior National Championships. Gautier Delaveau, formerly the resident coach, now visits from time to time, and these visiting-coach sessions are not a guaranteed weekly fixture.

Training for every age and level

The winter timetable includes groups for beginners and Mini Cadets, star-level groups and open sessions for adults. Parents can speak to the coach about the right group for a child, and adults returning to the sport or working towards a competition can agree a development plan with him. Plans are tailored to age, experience and goals.

Winter training runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with up to four training days a week. In summer the academy offers up to six days a week. Players can also ask about overseas summer camps and chances to train with international coaches, which depend on the current programme. Its approach brings together a coaching system developed by Mario, custom development plans and the chance to learn from foreign coaches. A first conversation with the coach is the best way to see which of these suits you.

The Tal-Ibragg centre

The HiTT High Performance Centre is built for the sport. It has Tibhar tables, professional flooring made for table tennis and air conditioning, which is welcome during the hot Maltese summer. You will find it at the Ibragg Church side annexe on Triq il-Kwarta, opposite Holland & Barrett. The academy now trains only at this site.

Anyone staying in the area can fit a session into a holiday week. Our guide to where to stay in Malta compares the main areas, and the weather month by month explains why indoor training is a comfortable option in July and August.

Training while you visit or relocate

Visitors are welcome to enquire. Tell the coach your travel dates, playing experience and goals, and he will discuss what is available during your stay. Please arrange a session before attending, because places depend on the group and the season.

If you are moving from the UK, a club like this can help you meet people quickly. Our relocation guide for UK movers covers the other practical steps. Between sessions you can explore the island with our guides to things to do in Malta, the best beaches in Malta and the Valletta guide, or ask about a day out with A4 Malta DMC Private Tours and Excursions. Families can also look at Adventure Hub for more children's activities.

To arrange a first session, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message on. Include the player's age group, experience, goals and, if visiting, your dates. You do not need to complete membership registration to make a first enquiry. Fees, equipment and clothing are confirmed directly with the coach.
