Francesco Varamo is an Italian hairstylist with more than twenty years of experience and the creator of the Silayage colour technique. His salon is at the Hard Rock Hotel Malta in St Julian's, and he also styles brides on location. Send your enquiry through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page and we will pass it on.

Francesco Varamo is a hairstylist from Italy who has spent over two decades in salons, best known for inventing Silayage, a colouring method he calls the Four Seasons Technique. His salon opened in 2026 at the Hard Rock Hotel Malta in St Julian's, and he also styles brides on location, in Malta or for weddings that bring guests from overseas.

He is listed on VisitMalta.co.uk among the hairdressers in Malta. This page explains what Silayage is, what the salon offers, how bridal bookings work and how to get in touch from the UK.

Silayage, the Four Seasons Technique

Silayage is Francesco's own technique. It is not balayage: it takes the exactness of foil highlights and the natural sweep of balayage, applied by hand as gentle gradients that look like shadow. Each colour is planned around the client's features, skin tone and type of hair, and it is designed to change with you as the seasons turn.

Each season has a look. Winter means cool, frosty blondes in ash and champagne shades. Spring brings soft golden blondes that brighten the face, summer is about honey ribbons and a sun-kissed warmth, and autumn is caramel depth with a soft shadow at the root. Shades such as caramel shine, ashy blonde and golden blonde are among those shown.

The salon's menu is wider than Silayage. Women can book balayage, shatush, highlights and lowlights, a cut and blow dry, root colour or a full head, True Keratin treatments, a vitamin treatment mask, upstyling and extensions by request. Men can book a haircut and blow dry or colour.

Experience and recognition

Francesco has worked for more than a decade in the role of Artistic Director for a Pasadena salon in Los Angeles, VP Organic Salon, and since 2017 he has led the hair team backstage at Malta Fashion Week, working on shows, on television and on shoots. His 2026 backstage work included the Guidera Design show at the Phoenicia.

In September 2024 he received two premium awards at a ceremony at the Hilton Malta, which he dedicated to his clients. He also teaches, running hands-on masterclasses where other professionals learn the Silayage method, in the salon.

For a UK client the useful points are practical: you will be dealing directly with the person who developed the technique, you can ask about a seasonal change of colour, and you can raise masterclasses if you are a stylist visiting Malta.

Bridal hair on location

Weddings are a speciality. Francesco styles brides and their wedding parties, for ceremonies in Malta and for couples flying in from abroad. Each bridal booking starts with a consultation and a trial run, so the look suits both you and the occasion, and on the wedding morning he travels to your venue or hotel. The photographs show updos and morning-of preparation in hotel rooms.

Bridal pricing follows the consultation, so there is no printed rate. If you are planning a destination wedding, our guides to where to stay in Malta and hotels in Sliema and St Julian's help you choose a base, and the Malta holidays overview covers the wider trip. If you are comparing accommodation across the island, see hotels in Malta.

He also sells his own Sea Salt Spray, made to give raw texture, volume and an undone finish. For planning, the Malta weather guide shows what each month is like, which helps when you are choosing a season for your colour, things to do in Malta fills the rest of your days, and flights to Malta covers getting here from the UK.
