Frank Zampa is one of the best-known jewellery names in Valletta, a family firm that sells diamonds, gold and gemstone jewellery, fine watches and crystal from two boutiques in the capital. For a UK couple choosing an engagement ring on holiday, or a visitor looking for a Maltese cross to take home, it offers a long history and a wide catalogue in a setting that is a pleasure to browse.

On VisitMalta.co.uk the business appears in our directory of jewellery shops in Malta, and its two shops sit within easy walking distance of the sights described in our Valletta guide.

A family firm since 1804

The house was founded in 1804 by Signor Giuseppe Zampa in Rome and is now run by its sixth generation. It grew under Frank Zampa, a great-grandson of the founder, who joined the business at fifteen and gave it its name. His youngest son, Renato, later took over, supported by his children Fabio and Loredana.

Today the firm focuses on gold, diamonds and bespoke in-house designs, with diamonds sourced from Antwerp and certified by the Gemological Institute of America. The flagship opened on Republic Street in 2012, Italian names Pasquale Bruni and Yoko London joined the portfolio in 2015 alongside Leo Pizzo, and TAG Heuer and Baccarat followed in 2018.

Engagement rings, jewellery and gifts

Engagement is the heart of the range. The shop holds one of the largest collections of engagement rings and wedding bands in Malta, with named collections such as Girlanda, a halo design, Romantiku, a solitaire style, and Geometrika. Ring pages let you choose diamond colour, clarity and carat weight, and prices are printed, with one Romantiku range running from €4400 to €9800.

The wider catalogue holds more than a thousand items, from sapphire and emerald rings to diamond earrings and tennis bracelets, plus pieces from Leo Pizzo, Pasquale Bruni, Tavanti, Cammilli and Yoko London. Maltese crosses are a local speciality, including cufflinks at €2150 and a pendant with emerald and diamonds at €2400. TAG Heuer watches, Wolf watch winders and boxes, and Baccarat crystal complete the gift offering. The TAG Heuer shelf includes Formula 1 and Carrera models, and the Baccarat range covers vases, champagne flutes and playing cards, which suit wedding gifts and anniversaries as well as personal treats.

Services and the two boutiques

Beyond selling, the business offers jewellery repairs, diamond upgrades, appraisals, gold buying, watch repairs and product care guidance, and customers can book a consultation or commission something bespoke. A written guide to diamonds is available on the site for first-time buyers, and the product pages show whether a certified natural diamond is used. Some designs show as out of stock online, so it is sensible to ask before you set your heart on a particular ring.

The Republic Street flagship has recently been refurbished as a welcoming space centred on exceptional jewellery. The newer Saint Lucia Street boutique is furnished with restored nineteenth-century library furniture from Turin and green, white and black marbled floors, and it carries an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional gold.

Visiting from the UK

Both shops are in the heart of the capital, close to St John's Co-Cathedral, the Upper Barrakka Gardens and the history told in our Knights of Malta guide. A browse fits neatly between sightseeing stops, and our page on things to do in Malta has more ideas.

To plan the trip, see our overview of where to stay in Malta, then hotels in Valletta, flights to Malta and the Malta holidays overview. When you are ready to ask about a ring or a watch, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the business.
