International House Malta is an English language school on Triq id-Dragunara in St Julian's, an affiliate of the International House World Organisation since 2003. It teaches general, intensive and exam English with CELTA-qualified teachers, plus programmes for over-50s, families and teenagers. Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the school.

International House Malta is an English language school in the centre of St Julian's, one of the island's best-connected seaside towns. It is run by Business Language Connection Limited and has been an affiliate of the International House World Organisation since 2003. Every teacher holds the CELTA, the Cambridge qualification for teaching English to adults, and classes are capped at 15 students with an average of around 12.

The school suits UK visitors who want a proper course rather than a holiday with a few lessons attached: professionals needing sharper workplace English, retirees looking for a sociable study break and parents planning a family stay. It appears in our directory of language schools in Malta, where you can compare it with centres such as AM Language.

The school and its teaching

Lessons are communicative and practical, which means you spend class time using English in realistic situations rather than studying rules passively. You are placed by level after an online placement test, usually taken around two weeks before you arrive, and progress is checked every four weeks where the length of your course allows. Students are encouraged to use English outside class too, and a free weekly conversation class is open to adult students.

The building has 14 air-conditioned classrooms, free Wi-Fi, a student lounge and common area, vending machines, drinking water and a reception and student-support desk. Students come from around 45 nationalities, so English is usually the only language everyone shares. Everyone receives a Welcome Pack and a Student Card on the first day, and a Certificate of Attendance and student report follow if you attend at least 85 per cent of lessons, including after a one-week course.

The school is licensed by the ELT Council of Malta (licence number 242/MB 09). It is not accessible for people with reduced mobility, and the team asks you to get in touch before booking so they can discuss your requirements honestly.

General and intensive English courses

General English comes in three weekly sizes. General English 10 is ten group lessons a week, leaving plenty of time for work, study or sightseeing. General English 20 is the balanced all-round option. Both run from beginner to advanced (A1 to C1). Intensive English 30 adds a specialised focus for learners from A2 upwards, and Combined Intensive 30 pairs 20 group lessons with 10 one-to-one lessons that are entirely yours.

A standard lesson lasts 45 minutes, courses start on any Monday and there are five tuition days a week. The 2026 published prices for the first 12 weeks, per week, are €120 for General English 10, €180 for General English 20 and €250 for Intensive English 30 in low season, rising to €185, €245 and €315 in high season. High season runs from 1 June to 31 August. Combined Intensive 30 is €550 a week in low season and €615 in high season. Additional weeks after week 12 are charged at a lower rate, and exact quotes depend on your dates.

Course materials are provided for use in class, and a course book can be bought separately for €50. A one-off administration fee of €75 applies to new students, and returning students do not pay it.

Exams, private lessons and long stays

Exam Preparation covers IELTS, Cambridge B2 First and Cambridge C1 Advanced, in 10, 20 or 30 lessons a week. The Pathway to Proficiency programme combines General English with focused exam preparation over eight weeks for €1,640 or over twelve weeks for €2,320.

Private lessons are available as general English, business and workplace English, pronunciation, interview and presentation practice, and English for Specific Purposes such as medical or technical English. One-to-one lessons start from €45 each in low season for General English, and online one-to-one packages come as 5 or 10 flexible 60-minute sessions.

If you plan to stay for eight weeks or more, the Long-stay English offer includes holiday entitlement, and the school can provide the documents and guidance for school-related visa steps, with the final decision made by the authorities. Our Malta relocation guide is a useful companion if a long course is the first step towards living on the island. The school also offers Bildungsurlaub, the German paid educational leave scheme, on its recognised Intensive English 30 course.

Programmes for over-50s, families and teenagers

Stay and Learn 50+ is a one or two week programme of themed English workshops with cultural excursions, and the school runs seasonal versions called Winter Getaway, Spring Escape and Taste of Malta. A one-week Winter Getaway with course and activities is priced at €465, or €885 with a full stay including accommodation.

The Family Programme lets parents and children aged eight and over study at the same time all year round. The Young Learners Summer Programme is a focused course for teenagers aged 12 to 17, with clear guardian rules. Groups of five or more students can request a tailored proposal covering teaching, accommodation, meals, transfers and activities, and teacher training courses for educators are also offered, suitable for Erasmus+ mobility.

Alongside weekly adult activities, the school can arrange tailor-made group stays for five or more students, which suits friends, clubs or work teams who want to study together. Free time is easy to fill. The weekly activity programme changes, and our guides to things to do in Malta, the best beaches in Malta and the Blue Lagoon on Comino show where students tend to spend their afternoons.

Accommodation, location and getting here

The school can arrange a room at Belview Residence, a self-catering residence around seven minutes on foot from the school, or a half-board host family, subject to availability. Airport transfers are €25 each way. A government eco tax of €1.50 a night applies, capped at €22.50 a stay. A dietary supplement of €70 a week applies to vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free arrangements, and full board is also €70 a week extra. If you would rather choose your own base, see our guide to hotels in Sliema and St Julian's.

St Julian's has restaurants, cafes and the seafront on the doorstep, with buses to the rest of the island, including the capital, as covered in our Valletta city guide. For packing and timing, check the Malta weather guide and compare flights from the UK to Malta.

How to start

Before you arrive, the school sends booking and practical information, asks you to confirm accommodation and your arrival transfer if you have booked them, and invites you to mention any welfare, dietary or practical needs. On the first day there is a welcome meeting and orientation, confirmation of your class and timetable, and an introduction to the support routes and the weekly activity programme. If you miss lessons, they are not normally refundable or transferable, so it helps to plan your dates carefully, and the team asks you to speak to them early if a serious problem keeps you away.

Tell the school your goal, preferred dates and current level, and you will receive a course recommendation or a personalised quotation. After booking you complete the online placement test, meet the team on your first morning and begin on a Monday. The school also offers a short online questionnaire to match you with a course, and a calculator for estimating course, accommodation and transfer costs.

To begin, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page, and we will pass your message to International House Malta.
