Marie Gallery 5 is a private contemporary art gallery that champions Maltese artists and helps collectors, hotels, companies and institutions build collections. It was founded by gallerist and art advisor Maria Galea on the belief that a gallery is a voice for art and for artists.

For UK visitors and buyers, it offers two things in one place: exhibitions you can see, and a professional service for buying, valuing and managing art in Malta.

The gallery and its story

The gallery launched to represent Malta's finest contemporary artists and to give them a platform in the wider art market. It has taken local artists to international art fairs in New York, Miami and Dubai. Between 2017 and 2018, it joined forces with the hospitality group Iniala to open a cluster of galleries across Malta and one in Thailand, with a busy monthly exhibition calendar.

The gallery is also the sole representative of the estate and collection of Isabelle Borg, Malta's most prominent female artist, who died in 2010. A retrospective of her work, The Streak, was shown at Spazju Kreativ. The Isabelle Borg Collection, created in 2017, holds abstracts, figurative work, suitcases and sketchbooks, and is managed to keep her legacy alive.

Artists, exhibitions and the space

The represented artists include Victor Agius, Alex Attard, Mario Attard, Isabelle Borg, Gabriel Caruana, Ryan Falzon, Sean Meilak, Jo Scicluna, Jade Zammit and many more. Recent exhibitions include Borrowed Territories by Jade Zammit, shown from 24 April to 10 June 2026, and the solo show I Took the Rock with Me by Neal Camilleri, from 18 February to 3 April 2026.

The exhibition space in Mosta has 40ft ceilings and professional lighting, and is split into two areas that can take video projection and installations. It can also be rented for workshops, book launches, press events and similar gatherings. Works are shown by medium, including paintings, photography, prints, sculpture and works on paper. The gallery has also hosted a charity exhibition, Juxtapose by Alfie Borg in aid of the Hudson Foundation, with 19 works. Browse other venues in our directory of art galleries in Malta.

Art advisory and private sales

Advisory work covers collection strategy, acquisition, private sales, hospitality, residential and corporate collections, collection management, valuations, authentication, art handling, loans, logistics and commissioning. The gallery has been commissioned for large art projects in the hospitality, corporate and public sectors, and its curatorial projects include advisory work for the Iniala Harbour House hotel and the Romegas Hotel. The team sources work, negotiates purchases, arranges shipment and installs pieces, and works to the client's budget.

Valuations are carried out on site, with documentation, inventory, condition reports and authenticity and provenance research, often for insurance, inheritance or division of assets. Estate management is a long-term service covering storage, marketing, exhibitions, auctions and publications. A free consultation can be held on site or online, and the gallery partners with Art Money on ten monthly payments with no interest, subject to terms.

Visiting and getting in touch

The gallery operates in Mosta and Valletta, and its contact address is at Tigne Point in Sliema. Our Valletta guide and Mdina guide help you plan a gallery day around the island's historic towns, and things to do in Malta has further ideas.

If you are staying in Malta for a while, it is an easy way to meet the local art scene, and the advisory service covers shipment and installation if you buy. Artworks in the online shop carry details such as medium, size and edition, and sold pieces are marked. Artists seeking representation and curators with exhibition proposals can apply through the gallery. Collectors and visitors should use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page, and we will pass your message to the business.
