Pearl Spas at the db Seabank Resort and Spa is a full-service day spa on the seafront at Mellieħa Bay, in the north of Malta. It is part of a small group that also runs a spa at the db San Antonio Hotel in Qawra, and it welcomes anyone who books, whether or not you are staying at the resort. The idea is straightforward: a place to switch off, with a long menu of massages, facials, Ayurvedic treatments and body rituals, plus spa day packages that include lunch and use of the indoor spa facilities.
Mellieħa Bay sits beside one of the island's longest sandy beaches, so a spa visit slots easily into a beach holiday. Our Mellieħa guide covers the town and the bay, and you can compare this spa with others in our directory of spas in Malta.
What Pearl Spas is about
Its purpose is to give the spirit rest, enrich the mind and revitalise the body, through a wide choice of natural and holistic treatments given by a team of qualified, dedicated therapists. Its mission is to help people look and feel their best, using leading product brands, including Elemis and Thalion, with a focus on a good treatment experience from the moment you arrive. You complete a short consultation form before your treatment, so the therapist knows what you need. This approach suits first-time spa visitors as well as regulars.
You can come for a quick 25 minute treat or a long, lavish day. The treatment list runs from short back, neck and shoulder massages at €40 to long signature packages, so there is something for a lunchtime break or a full afternoon. The spa is open every day, Monday to Sunday, from 9am to 8pm.
Spa day packages
The spa day packages are the most popular way to spend a few hours here. They pair a day of relaxation with lunch and use of the indoor spa facilities. Packages can be redeemed from Monday to Saturday, excluding Sundays and public holidays, and bookings are subject to availability, so reserve early and bring a printed copy of any voucher to the spa desk. A cosy escape collection of seasonal offers is also listed, and an All-Inclusive Spa Day appears on the price list at €49 at the time of writing, so ask which version is open to you when you enquire.
If you prefer a ready-made treatment combination, the signature packages are well priced. Spa Treat is a 50 minute escape that combines a back, neck and shoulder massage with a revitalising facial, at €70 per person. Me Time lasts 110 minutes at €120 per person and pairs the signature full body massage with the signature facial. Mother of Pearl, at 110 minutes and €130 per person, begins with a coconut scrub and a warm wrap, then adds a Polynesian massage and a finish with Mother of Pearl cream.
Other packages include Cleopatra's Escape, an 80 minute milk and honey bath with a full body massage at €100 per person, and the Honey Sugar Ritual, an 80 minute scrub, face mask and massage at €100 per person. For men, Manscape is a deep tissue massage followed by reflexology, at €80 for 50 minutes or €110 for 80 minutes.
Massage and body wellness
The body menu covers most styles you might look for. The Pearl Spas Signature Massage costs €75 for 50 minutes and €100 for 80 minutes, and the Well Being Full-Body Massage is €60 for 50 minutes. Deep tissue and sports massage are each priced at €45 for 25 minutes and €75 for 50 minutes, and a hot stone massage runs from €45 to €100 depending on length.
Further options include Balinese massage with warm coconut oil, candle massage using melted soy wax, Thai massage, herbal compress massage, lymphatic massage and reflexology. Quick treatments such as a back, neck and shoulder massage or a foot and leg massage take 25 minutes and cost €40 each, which is handy after a day on your feet in Valletta or on the beach. Expectant mothers can book a massage called Mums to Be at €70 for 50 minutes.
Body scrubs cost €45 and body wraps €55 to €60, each beginning with a short head massage. You can also choose a private candle-lit bath for €30. The hammam rituals on the full menu are listed as exclusive to the db San Antonio spa in Qawra, so ask which treatments are offered at Mellieħa before you book.
Facials and skin technology
Facials range from simple to high-tech. The Pearl Spas Signature Facial costs €60 for 50 minutes, a Gua Sha Facial using shaped stones costs €60, and an Anti Ageing and Rejuvenating Facial costs €75 for 50 minutes or €100 for 80. A gentlemen's facial takes 80 minutes at €95, and a teenage facial for ages 13 to 19 costs €50. Branded facials use Thalion, Korres and Pro-Glow products, mostly priced at €65 for 50 minutes.
The spa also invests in skin technology. A skin analyser, priced at €25, captures a detailed picture of the skin before the therapist chooses a treatment. Machine facials include the Cleo Mask light therapy facial from €65, the Aqua Spectrum from €85 and the DermaSonic from €75, while a Hydra Facial costs €75. Chemical peels are €65, and laser hair removal is now offered, with introductory offers. These are cosmetic treatments, and the therapists will talk through what suits your skin; this page is not medical advice.
Ayurveda, couples and family treatments
Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of wellbeing, and the spa offers a long list of Ayurvedic treatments. Abhyangam, the foundation warm oil massage, costs €70 for 50 minutes. Shirodhara, where warm oil is poured slowly over the forehead, costs €120 for 80 minutes, and Four Hand Synchronized Abhyangam, performed by two therapists at once, costs €150. Other options include herbal bag massages such as Elakizhi and Navara Kizhi, and Udwarthanam, a powder massage.
For couples, Us Two is a side-by-side massage in a twin room, priced at €140 per couple for 50 minutes and €190 for 80 minutes, finished with a glass of sparkling wine. The Romantic Getaway combines a hot stone couples massage with a facial for €180 per couple, and Time for Us lasts 110 minutes at €260 per couple.
Hands and feet are covered too: a Pearl Manicure or Pedicure is €40 for 50 minutes, with gel polish for an extra €10, and eyebrow and lash services include tints, a lash lift and extensions. The spa also has a kids menu for younger guests, with massages, a chocolate wrap and mini manicures at €35 to €45, and it hosts spa parties and group and corporate bookings. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
