Services, hours and details last checked against Holidays in Malta's own published information.

Holidays in Malta is a Maltese company that offers private skippered day charters on Mowgli, a 45-foot Elan Impression sailing yacht kept at Marina di Valletta in Tal-Pietà. Trips are for your group alone, with no licence needed, and enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.

Mowgli is a sailing yacht you can charter for a private day on the water around Malta, Comino and Gozo. She is looked after by Holidays in Malta, a Maltese company, and she leaves from Marina di Valletta in Tal-Pietà, a short way from the capital. Your group has the boat to itself, with a professional skipper at the helm, so there is no sailing licence to worry about.

The business is listed with our boat charter companies in Malta and our tour operators in Malta. If you are new to the islands, our Valletta guide is a useful companion for the day before or after your trip.

The yacht and who it suits

Mowgli is an Elan Impression 45.1, built in 2020. She has three cabins, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a roomy saloon with a wraparound settee and plenty of deck space for sunbathing. A swim platform gives easy access to the sea. Comforts include hot water, a Bluetooth audio system with outside speakers, a spray-hood and Bimini for shade, a teak cockpit, a refrigerator, an outside shower and a stand-up paddleboard.

A private charter takes up to 12 guests plus the skipper. The experience is child-friendly, with life jackets for infants, babies and children, so families sit comfortably alongside groups of friends, couples on a romantic cruise, and celebrations such as hen and bachelor parties. Safety gear includes two ten-person life rafts, a dinghy, 17 life jackets, an EPIRB distress beacon, a VHF radio, a GPS chart plotter and an autopilot.

Routes and stops

You choose the route with the skipper on the day. The most popular is the north tour, which follows Malta's northern coast to Comino and Gozo, with stops that might include the Blue Lagoon, the Crystal Lagoon, Paradise Bay, Imġiebaħ Bay, the Coral Lagoon, St Paul's Islands and the Comino caves. Our Blue Lagoon guide and Gozo guide show what each place offers.

If the wind pushes the boat south, the day takes in rugged cliffs and quieter bays such as Ħofriet Bay, St Peter's Pool, Kalanka Bay and St Thomas Bay. Since the weather can stop you reaching Gozo, it helps to check the Malta weather guide, and for a swim and sand beyond the boat, see the best beaches in Malta.

What is included, food and timings

The charter price includes fuel, the skipper's service, VAT and other taxes, a cleaning fee, a full water tank, coffee, tea, soft drinks and drinking water, with linen, blankets and towels on request. Your skipper greets you with a cup of coffee when you step aboard.

You can bring your own food and drinks, as long as the food is ready to eat because nothing is cooked on board; the boat has a fridge and a cooler for ice. Platters are available at €20 per person, and the full menu is sent after you reserve. A hostess service provides a waiter on board if you want someone to look after drinks and lunch. The company advises against stopping at a restaurant, because it eats into your time afloat and the weather may not allow a Gozo landing.

Trips usually run from 10:00 to 18:00, with flexible timings such as 09:00 to 17:00 on request. In winter the earlier 09:00 to 17:00 slot is recommended so you are back before sunset and the colder hours. A full refund applies if you cancel at least 14 days ahead, and also if the skipper cancels because it is unsafe to go out.

About Holidays in Malta

The company was founded in 2016 by Evgheni Bordeniuc and his mother, Valentina Iurceac, a family who moved to Malta and made it home. They began with holiday accommodation, and in 2018 added boat hire with a 42-foot Bavaria called Rainbow Hunter, later sold. Mowgli joined in 2020. The company uses recyclable products on charters, sail whenever they can and encourage guests not to pollute.

Questions about Holidays in Malta

Where does the yacht leave from?

Mowgli is kept at Marina di Valletta, on Triq Sa Maison in Tal-Pietà, and every trip departs from there. The marina is a short distance from Valletta, which makes meeting the skipper straightforward.

How many people can come on a charter?

A private charter takes up to 12 guests plus the licensed skipper. The yacht is yours alone and is never shared with other groups, and children and babies are welcome with life jackets available in all sizes.

Do I need a sailing licence?

No. The skipper sails the yacht for you, so you do not need any licence and can spend the day swimming, sunbathing or relaxing with your group while the skipper handles the sailing and the route.

What is included in the price?

The price covers fuel, the skipper, VAT and other taxes, cleaning, a full water tank, coffee, tea, soft drinks and drinking water. Linen, blankets and towels are available on request, and platters cost extra at €20 per person.

Can I bring my own food and drink?

Yes, you can bring food and drinks aboard, but the food must be ready to eat because nothing is cooked on the yacht. There is a fridge and a cooler for ice, and the company can also supply platters.

What are the times and the cancellation terms?

Trips usually run from 10:00 to 18:00, or 09:00 to 17:00 on request and in winter. You can cancel up to 14 days ahead for a full refund, and also get one if the skipper calls off an unsafe day.
