Samudra Retreats Gozo runs small, seven-day slow living and life-reset retreats from restored farmhouses in the village of Qala on Gozo, with a healing cave next door. Each retreat is all-inclusive, with meals, daily practices and three personal treatments, and prices start from €1,595. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page and we pass them to the team.

Samudra Retreats Gozo offers a small, unhurried seven-day retreat on the island of Gozo, aimed at people who feel worn down, are at a turning point or simply want to switch off from everyday pace. It is not a fitness camp or a luxury spa break. The week is built around rest, gentle daily practices, shared meals and one-to-one treatments, with no pressure to join in any session you do not want.

The retreat is based in Qala, a quiet village at the eastern tip of Gozo, in traditional farmhouses beside an ancient underground cave. It appears on VisitMalta.co.uk in our directory of meditation and wellbeing in Malta, and it suits UK guests who want a complete package, with accommodation and food included, rather than a bundle of separate bookings.

Who is behind Samudra

Samudra is a small community of people who live and work together on Gozo, some family by blood and others by choice. The founders are a mother and daughter, Mila and Luca, who act as co-directors, and the team includes a somatic therapist, a massage therapist, an energy healer, a head chef who also looks after the properties and a customer relations lead who handles online bookings.

The founders describe the project as something born from everyday life rather than a business concept: guests join the team's daily routine for a week, sharing its food, rhythms and home. The manifesto is explicit that Samudra is not a luxury escape, not a performance-based yoga retreat and not a plant-medicine experience, but a lived, intentional process rooted in embodiment and nervous-system awareness.

The community began running retreats in 2022 and has welcomed more than 700 guests from over 12 countries. Many of the team moved to Gozo from northern Europe, and the island's slow rhythm shaped the retreat. Groups are small: a maximum of eleven guests are cared for by five facilitators who live on the island full time.

What the week includes

Every morning starts with embodiment practices such as yoga, breathwork and meditation, some of them by the sea. Afternoons are left open for rest, swimming and reflection alongside your personal treatments, and evenings bring group sessions, sharing circles, creative workshops or ceremonies. Everything is offered as an invitation, so you can sit a session out and rest.

Each guest receives three private treatments: a somatic massage, an energy healing session and a tarot reading used as a reflective conversation. Group work looks at beliefs, patterns and relationships in a trauma-aware setting. Other elements include sound healing in the cave, cacao ceremonies, ecstatic dance and nature time. After you leave, you are invited into an online integration space, and every guest takes home an eco journal.

The daily rhythm is deliberately loose. Morning practice is short and spacious, the middle of the day belongs to you, and the evening gathers everyone for a group session, a circle or a creative workshop. The aim is nervous-system settling, body awareness and emotional integration at a human pace, not a dramatic breakthrough, and the team values integration over peak experiences. If you need to spend a whole day resting by the pool, that is welcome.

The team is clear about what it does not offer. It is not a plant-medicine retreat, and the only plant medicine used is non-hallucinogenic cacao. It does not claim to heal illness or injury, and anyone with a specific health concern is told to speak to a doctor first. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed on site, although guests may have a drink in the village in the evening.

The farmhouses, the cave and the food

Guests stay six nights in one of four restored farmhouses, each more than 400 years old and each with its own private pool. They are reserved for the retreat group for the duration of the programme. Rooms have air conditioning and most are private en-suite rooms; some have terraces with views over Comino and the Blue Lagoon, and a shared twin option is available.

Four room types sit behind the packages: Deluxe, Superior, Comfort and Shared. The retreat content is identical in all of them and only room type and privacy differ. Couples who share a double room receive a 10% reduction on the combined rate. Rooms are available only as part of the retreat package and cannot be booked separately.

Outdoors there are shared terraces, lounge areas, a library and art materials for quiet afternoons, and the surrounding countryside and sea views make it easy to spend time outside. The setting is rustic and comfortable, mixing farmhouse character with carefully chosen rooms, and it is a place that existed long before retreats did.

Next door is the Samudra Shala, a sacred space for sessions that includes an underground cave carved into the rock about 4,000 years ago. Meals are vegetarian, with vegan and gluten-free diets catered for, and are prepared by the in-house chef, who has more than 20 years of experience. Guests get brunch and dinner daily, plus snacks, herbal teas and coffee. Local village shops are basic, so bring your essentials.

Prices, dates and what is included

The seven-night all-inclusive packages start from €1,595 per person. The price covers six nights of accommodation, linens and towels, the full programme with three private treatments and daily group practices, two meals a day, snacks and drinks, and pick-up from Gozo harbour. It does not cover extra nights, flights and airport transfers, ferry tickets, travel insurance, visa fees or activities outside the programme.

A 25% deposit secures your place, and the balance should reach the team at least 14 days before the start date. The refund scale for cancellations is published on the retreat's website, so ask about it before you pay. Dates are published for 2026 and 2027, and you can only book the whole retreat, though late arrivals on the first evening are welcome if flights make it unavoidable.

Getting to Gozo and planning your stay

Fly into Malta International Airport, then take the short ferry to Gozo. The team can organise a private transfer from the airport or to the ferry terminal, and meets guests at the ferry free of charge. Compare flights from the UK to Malta and read our guide to Gozo before you go.

Gozo itself is a small island with a slower rhythm, open landscapes and a close relationship with the sea, and the journey from Malta by ferry marks a natural break from everyday momentum. The island has a hospital, and the team arranges medical attention in an emergency. The village shop and pharmacy are basic, while the larger supermarkets lie in the centre of the island, so a member of the team will fetch anything urgent for you.

The beach at Hondoq is about a 12 minute walk from the farmhouses, and the village square has a coffee stop. Free time can be spent walking the coastline, swimming and exploring; our Blue Lagoon guide covers the nearby island of Comino, and our Malta weather guide helps you pick the best month.

If you plan to add a few days of sightseeing before or after, start with our things to do in Malta and best beaches in Malta pages, and read about Malta for the wider picture. For flight options from the capital, see London Heathrow to Malta.

If you want to talk things through first, the team encourages questions before booking. Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to Samudra Retreats Gozo.
