Suncat Malta Charters is a family-owned boat charter company that runs private catamaran, sailing yacht and motor boat trips around Malta, Gozo and Comino. Boats leave from the Sliema Tigné seafront, Roland Marina and Kalkara Marina, with a skipper, snorkelling gear and paddleboards on every charter. Booking enquiries can be sent through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.

Suncat Malta Charters offers private boat trips around the Maltese islands on catamarans, sailing yachts and a small number of motor boats, all hired with a skipper and sailing for your group alone. It suits UK visitors who want a day at the Blue Lagoon without sharing a crowded tour boat, as well as couples planning an evening on the water, families celebrating a birthday and companies looking for an unusual venue for a team day.

Boats are based on the Sliema Tigné seafront, at Roland Marina and at Kalkara Marina, so there is usually a departure point within easy reach of wherever you are staying. On VisitMalta.co.uk the business appears in our directory of boat charter in Malta, and the sections below explain what you can book, what is included and how to plan the day.

Who is behind Suncat Malta

Suncat Malta Charters is a family-owned company founded in 2016 and led by Keith Sammut. It describes more than ten years of experience in sailing and charter work, and it has grown from a small catamaran operation into a fleet that now includes several yachts. In April 2026 the business took over Sailing Charters Malta, which widened the choice of sailing yachts available to guests.

The approach is boutique rather than mass market. Each trip is built around the group booking it, whether that is a quiet sunset cruise, a boat party with friends or a business event, and itineraries are agreed with the skipper instead of following a fixed script. Charters run on a first-come, first-served basis, so dates are allocated as requests arrive and early booking is the best way to secure a favourite weekend.

Charter types: day, evening and overnight

The day charter is the most popular choice. It normally runs from 10:00 to 18:00, an eight-hour trip that includes roughly two hours of sailing each way between the base and Comino, which leaves a generous stretch of the day for swimming, snorkelling and lunch at anchor. Timings can be flexible if you tell the team what suits your group, and extra hours can be added subject to availability at an additional cost.

Evening charters usually start at 19:00 and finish at 23:00. They are popular for proposals, anniversaries and romantic dinners, and the start time cannot be moved earlier because it would clash with the day charter. Overnight charters are available for a minimum of two days and one night, with no upper limit on length, and the galley on board is stocked with cookware, crockery and fresh water for a longer stay. Multi-day sailing on the yachts can suit those who want to learn the basics under the guidance of a skipper.

Corporate groups can book a boat for meetings and team building, and the crew will arrange decorations and set-ups for birthdays, hen parties, anniversaries and similar occasions. Larger parties can be split across more than one boat, which the team arranges on request.

The fleet and printed prices

The catamarans are the heart of the fleet. Valentina S, a Lagoon 410, takes up to 15 guests from €595. Varela S, a Lagoon 39, takes up to 19 guests from €695, Laura S, a Lagoon 400 S2, takes up to 22 guests from €750, and Nea S, a Bali 4.0, takes up to 26 guests from €825. These are the boats to choose for larger families and groups because of their wide decks, shaded seating and stable ride.

Sailing yachts suit smaller parties. Lilly S and Nini S are Bavaria 41 yachts at €400 each, taking up to 8 and 9 guests respectively on a day charter or six on a multi-day trip. Taifun S, a Bavaria 46, takes up to 11 guests from €495. Farfalla S, a Beneteau 50, takes up to 15 guests for the day from €550, while Moon Song, a Beneteau 43, takes up to 9 from €475 and Hati, a Jeanneau 379, takes up to 6 from €395. An Ilver Mirable 39 for up to 10 guests, with sunbathing cushions and a bathing platform, is also in the fleet.

For a faster, more adventurous day, two powerboats reach the caves and coves that larger boats cannot. The Pholas 23 RHIB carries up to 8 people and costs €425 for a four-hour half day or €620 for a seven-hour full day. The Bluline 21, a 21-foot boat with a 200hp outboard, takes up to 7 guests from €400 and is offered on full-day and half-day charters. The prices above are the starting figures printed for each boat, so confirm the exact total for your date when you enquire.

What is included on board

Every charter includes a professional skipper, unlimited mineral water, two stand-up paddleboards, snorkelling gear, a Bluetooth sound system, fuel, post-trip cleaning and all relevant taxes. Boats carry life jackets, first aid kits and life rafts, and skippers are trained in safety procedures. Guests are asked to arrive 15 minutes before departure, when the skipper gives a safety briefing.

You can bring your own food and drink or choose a catering package, with light menus, barbecues and vegan options available if you mention dietary needs in advance. The galley has cutlery, crockery and wine glasses, and a large cooler is provided, though guests need to bring ice or order it at least a day ahead. The barbecue grill can be used at an extra cost, moderate alcohol is allowed and children of all ages are welcome, with the charterer responsible for their safety. Small pets are permitted, and smoking is only allowed on deck.

It helps to pack sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes and a camera. Anyone prone to seasickness should bring their own tablets and take them about an hour before departure, because medication is not supplied on board. Although the boats are insured, personal travel insurance is still recommended.

Where the boats go

Itineraries are tailored to each group, and the skipper will suggest anchorages that suit the weather and your wishes. The classic route heads for Comino and the Blue Lagoon, with a stop at the quieter Crystal Lagoon and a look at the Santa Maria Caves, where anchoring is not permitted. From there the options open out to the bays described in our Gozo guide, such as Ramla Bay, San Blas, Dwejra and Marsalforn.

On Malta's own coast the boats can anchor off Mellieħa Bay, Anchor Bay beside Popeye Village, Paradise Bay, Golden Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa and Selmun, or sail south to the Blue Grotto and St Peter's Pool near Marsaxlokk. A scenic cruise into Valletta's Grand Harbour passes the bastions of the capital and the Three Cities, and Rinella Bay offers a calm swimming stop. Our guide to the best beaches in Malta is useful for deciding which of these you want to see from the sea.

Because wind and swell shape every day on the water, it is worth reading our Malta weather guide when choosing a month.

Meeting points and booking terms

Catamarans depart from the Sliema Tigné seafront and from Pontoon D at Roland Marina, and the sailing yachts leave from Pontoon F at Kalkara Marina. Both marinas have parking and are easy to reach from most of the island. If you are staying nearby, the hotels in Sliema are a short walk from the seafront. Alternative pick-ups at Xemxija, Ċirkewwa or Mġarr in Gozo can be arranged for an additional fee.

A €200 deposit secures a booking. If you cancel 30 or more days ahead the deposit is refunded in full, with 50 per cent returned for 15 or more days, and nothing is refunded inside seven days. If the weather rules out sailing, the charter is moved to the next available date at no extra charge, or the deposit is refunded. Payment can be made by cash, Revolut, bank transfer or card. The peak season runs from 1 May to 30 September, weekends are in high demand, and booking at least a month ahead is advised. For more ideas to fill the rest of your stay, see our guide to things to do in Malta.

If you are thinking of buying rather than chartering, the directory also lists FL Yachting Malta for yacht sales. To plan a charter with Suncat Malta, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the team, who will reply to you directly.
