Welbee's Balluta

If you are staying around Balluta Bay and want somewhere close for breakfast supplies, a bottle of wine for the balcony or a few things for the evening, Welbee's Express Supermarket is the branch to know. It stands on The Mall in San Ġiljan (St Julian's) and belongs to Welbee's, one of Malta's larger locally owned grocery groups. This page forms part of our listing of supermarkets in Malta.

Welbee's presents itself as a group, so the notes below describe the chain and its online service, and the branch details are limited to what the directory record confirms: the name, the Balluta location and the address.

About the Welbee's group

Welbee's is operated by Retail Marketing Ltd. The company came together in March 2021 through the merger of four Maltese grocery businesses, a few of which date back to the 1940s, and the Welbee's brand was introduced that October. It now has ten supermarkets, a payroll of over 500 and ties with local suppliers and importers.

Family ownership is a recurring theme. The founders are Maltese, each shop grew from a family firm, and the team spans more than 34 nationalities. Promoting local produce wherever possible is part of the group's stated approach to buying.

Shopping in store or from your phone

The Balluta branch carries the Express name, and the group's full range can also be ordered online if you would rather have it brought to your door. The web shop lets you save favourites, repeat an earlier order, choose how you want substitutes handled when an item is out of stock, and sort results by price or name.

Delivery is free above €65, with a €5 charge on smaller baskets and another €5 when the courier has to carry your order up stairs. If you are in a hurry, express same-day delivery costs a flat €13. Collecting from a store is free over €35, using Spinola, Santa Venera or Naxxar as pickup points. An independent courier drives the vans and will make contact shortly before arriving, and you will be asked to sign the receipt.

Shelves online range from Greek yoghurt, feta and halloumi to baby food, ready meals, cleaning products and laundry pods, with discounted household essentials promoted on the front page. Alcohol and other age-restricted goods require age verification, either when you register or at checkout if you shop as a guest. Replacements for out-of-stock items can be authorised with or without a call, and any extra cost from a replacement is charged separately.

Rewards and member offers

The Welbee's Loyalty Club gives members points and cashback, available through an app or a card. Weekly member prices appear beside the normal price online, so it is worth signing up before a long stay. Cashback you have built up can be taken off an online order when you pay, as long as your membership number is saved in your profile.

For questions about an order, the group runs a live chat service from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday, except on public holidays.
