Menu, prices and opening hours last checked against the restaurant's own published information.
JuFu Asian Restaurant brings sushi, Chinese and Thai cooking together on one long fusion menu in Senglea, one of the Three Cities on Malta's Grand Harbour. It works as a sit-down restaurant and as a takeaway, with pickup, delivery and online ordering, so it suits a relaxed dinner as much as a quick lunch between sights. Our page on restaurants in Senglea lists the other tables in town.
Sushi, wok dishes and Thai flavours
Professional chefs cook every order fresh, and the menu mixes well-known favourites with punchier dishes. On the sushi side, one of the featured rolls combines cooked salmon and tuna with avocado, finished with crumbs, spicy mayonnaise and crispy onion, eight pieces to a portion. The big Mixed Platter D is built for sharing: two kinds of maki, eight of each, nigiri topped with salmon, prawn, avocado, squid, tofu, egg, crab and tuna, salmon and tuna sashimi with a vegetable salad, and slim hosomaki of salmon and avocado.
From the kitchen's hot dishes come fried rice noodles with chicken or beef, tossed with vegetables and egg, chicken with mixed vegetables in 200g portions, served either steamed or fried, and satay chicken skewers, four to an order. A steak and chicken platter makes a generous main for meat eaters. Vegetarians are catered for too, and the seaweed salad, with avocado, tofu, carrot and cucumber, is a light way to start. The photos show sushi served on wooden boards and noodles brought to the table in a two-handled pan. For more places cooking food from the region, see our list of Asian restaurants.
Three branches and long opening hours
The Senglea branch is at 24 Juan B. Azopardo Street, and JuFu also has restaurants on Dragonara Road in Paceville, St Julian's, and on Triq Fisher in Mġarr. It opens every day for lunch from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm and again for dinner from 5:30 pm to 11:00 pm. Food can be eaten in, collected or delivered, and orders can be placed online through the website.
Senglea, the unconquered city
Senglea, known in Maltese as L-Isla, takes its name from Grand Master Claude de la Sengle, who gave the narrow peninsula city status in the 1550s. Fort Saint Michael, begun in 1552, came first, and the walled town followed over the next decade. Senglea held out against the Ottoman forces during the Great Siege of 1565, earning the title Città Invicta, the invincible city. Around 2,720 people live here, which makes it one of the most densely packed places in Malta, and locals speak the Cottonera dialect.
What remains of the defences, chiefly the seaward bastions and a stretch of the land front, has sat on Malta's tentative UNESCO list since 1998. The base of the rebuilt Saint Michael Cavalier, about 450 metres from JuFu, is all that survives of the original fort. In town, the basilica dedicated to the Nativity of Our Lady was rebuilt after wartime bombing and consecrated again in 1957; its oratory holds the much-loved statue of the Redeemer. Our Three Cities guide puts Senglea in context with its neighbours.

Across the creek in Birgu
Birgu lies just across the water. The Malta Maritime Museum, about 300 metres away, fills the former Royal Naval Bakery of the 1840s with more than 20,000 objects tracing the islands' seafaring past. Fort St Angelo, about 450 metres away, was the Order of St John's headquarters during the Great Siege, and the British garrisoned it from 1800 to 1979. The Auberge d'Angleterre, about 500 metres away, once lodged knights from England, Scotland and Ireland and is the best preserved of Birgu's auberges. Our Vittoriosa guide has more, and Birgu's restaurants include Don Berto and Il-Girbi.
Booking and ordering
Tables can be requested through the booking form on JuFu's website, where you add the date, the number of guests and any special requests, and the same site takes orders for collection or delivery. Nearby in Senglea, Enchanté offers a different style of evening. To ask anything else, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the restaurant.
