DHL Express Malta

DHL Express is the express courier division of the DHL Group, and its Malta presence is listed at Ħal Luqa, the village beside Malta's airport. The service is built around time definite, door-to-door delivery, which means a parcel or document is collected from one address and brought to another with a predicted delivery window. It draws on more than 50 years of international shipping expertise and serves over 220 countries and territories.

You can compare it with local operators in our directory of courier companies in Malta. This page explains what DHL Express offers to people in Malta and how the online tools work.

What DHL Express delivers

The core product is international express delivery for documents, parcels and packages, with a range of delivery services and optional extras that can be added to suit the shipment. Options and surcharges are explained in an online section so you can see what applies before you book. Because the site shows no Malta tariff, it pays to compare the quoted price and delivery time for the exact weight, size and destination before you commit to a booking.

If you have recently moved and are waiting for belongings, or you need to send paperwork back to the UK, an express courier is often quicker than standard post. Our Malta relocation guide covers the wider move, while remote workers who need contracts or equipment shipped will find the digital nomad guide useful.

Visitors can use the same service from a holiday. If you want to send gifts or souvenirs home after reading our Malta holidays overview, the courier can collect and carry them abroad.

Booking, pickup and tracking online

Shipping is organised through MyDHL+, DHL's online platform. From the Malta page you can create a shipment, copy one from a past or favourite shipment, get a rate and time quote, schedule a courier pickup, upload a shipment file or scan a barcode, and order packing supplies. An address book, shipment reports and saved settings are available to account holders, and shipments from the last 90 days are shown on the dashboard.

Tracking is open to anyone: you can follow a package by its tracking number or by a reference you set. Recipients can also take control of delivery, choosing when and where a parcel arrives if they are not at home or their plans change. Return shipments are a built-in option.

A DHL Express business account can be opened online and carries preferred rates and billing options, though the site shows no fixed Malta prices, so a quote for each shipment is the only way to find the cost.

Customs and packing advice

Customs is a large part of international courier work. DHL Express offers customs services, declarations and digital customs invoices, and publishes advice on customs clearance and regulatory updates from around the world, which helps first-time shippers avoid delays at the border. The site also warns that the EU customs reform will change how low value shipments entering the EU27 are treated, so check the current rules before you send or order goods.

Lithium and lithium ion batteries are classified as dangerous goods, so anyone shipping electronics should read the rules first. Packing guidance is available as well, with tips on preparing a box so that its contents survive the journey, and our guide to flights to Malta and the Heathrow to Malta route show how much traffic moves between the UK and the islands.
