Edwards Lowell is Malta's best-known family-run retailer of fine watches and jewellery, trading since 1925 and now operating boutiques in Valletta and St Julian's. For UK visitors, it is the island's natural stop for a considered purchase such as a Rolex, a Cartier or a Patek Philippe, as well as a place to have a watch serviced during a stay.

This VisitMalta.co.uk listing is for the group's Zachary Street address in Valletta, home to its Books boutique, and the wider business is covered here so you know what the brand offers. It appears in our directory of jewellery shops in Malta, and a visit slots easily into a day exploring the capital with our Valletta city guide.

A century of family retail

The company was founded in 1925 by Charles E. Lowell, who first traded in textiles and foodstuffs. Rolex was introduced to Malta in the 1930s, and in the 1960s and 1970s his son Malcolm turned the business towards fine watches and jewellery alone. The Rolex and Tudor agency dates from 1948, Patek Philippe followed in 1979, and Chopard, Breitling, Hublot and A. Lange & Söhne were added in later years.

The family also holds a long Swiss connection: Charles Lowell was appointed Agent Consul of Switzerland in 1937, and later family members have held the honorary consul roles. The firm marked its hundredth anniversary in 2025. The ambition is to be the island's most trusted name in luxury goods, and the way of working puts integrity, courtesy and respect at the centre of how customers and colleagues are treated.

Watch brands and jewellery

The main watch names are Rolex, including a Rolex Certified Pre-Owned programme, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Tudor, A. Lange & Söhne, Breitling, Chopard, Girard-Perregaux and Hublot. Jewellery collections include Pomellato, with rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces, and Serafino Consoli, as well as Chopard's jewellery lines such as Happy Diamonds and Iconica.

The online shop displays prices in euros for featured pieces, for example a Tudor Black Bay at €4,790, a Chopard Mille Miglia at €10,000, an Alpine Eagle at €16,100 and a Happy Sport watch at €8,530. Stock changes, so confirm availability and price with the team before travelling. Delivery is offered to Malta and a list of other EU countries, with the UK not among them, so ask directly about shipping to the UK.

The boutiques

Edwards Lowell runs several shops rather than one. The Watch Shop on Zachary Street opened in 1980 and was refurbished in 2021, a Rolex mono-brand boutique and a shared Patek Philippe and Cartier boutique sit on Republic Street, and a concept store at Portomaso and a Spinola Bay boutique serve the St Julian's side of the island. Tudor and Breitling each have their own boutique at Mercury Towers.

The Books boutique opened in 2023 on Zachary Street as a cultural and retail concept. Because each boutique focuses on different brands, it is worth deciding what you are looking for before you go, and booking an appointment if you want a private consultation. If you plan to stay nearby, our hotels in Valletta page lists central options.

Aftersales, servicing and selling a watch

Servicing for Rolex is handled by an After Sales Centre that opened in Valletta in 2011, and a newer aftersales centre in St Julian's, opened in 2023, offering servicing and repairs for timepieces. A separate department handles pre-owned watch sales and purchasing.

If you want to sell a watch, you can ask for a fair valuation through the business. You can use the contact form to select a subject such as buying a watch, selling a watch, aftersales or delivery and returns.

Visiting Valletta

Zachary Street and Republic Street are in the middle of the capital, within easy reach of St John's Co-Cathedral and the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Our Knights of Malta guide explains the history behind the streets you will be walking, and things to do in Malta has more ideas.

If you are planning the trip, see flights to Malta from the UK, where to stay in Malta for areas, and about Malta for background. To ask about a watch, jewellery, servicing or an appointment, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to Edwards Lowell.
