Who runs La Boucherie

La Boucherie is a brand owned and operated by JP Imports (Food Division) Ltd, a leading Maltese importer known for distributing fine meats. As the importer grew its distribution chain to serve leading Maltese restaurants, it launched La Boucherie to bring the same quality to households. The head butcher shop is on Triq il-Mithna in Qormi, with further branches in St Paul's Bay, Naxxar and Gżira.

The butchers in store are experienced and can advise on cuts and also on seasonings, sauces and sides to serve alongside them. The brand has a video series called Steak School, hosted by Chef Ivan, on premium cuts and how to serve them, and a guide to beef grading that explains the systems used for USDA, Sashi and Wagyu beef.

The range: beef, poultry, pork, lamb and game

Beef is the star. The shop is the exclusive importer of Sashi beef, bred in Finland and often compared with Wagyu, and also stocks USDA, Irish Angus, Australian, Brazilian, Argentinian, Canadian, Uruguayan, New Zealand and Japanese Wagyu lines. Cuts include rib-eye, fillet, striploin, T-bone, tomahawk, picanha, short rib, ossobuco, oxtail, cheeks and brisket. Printed prices include Irish Angus tomahawk at €35.75 per kg and Irish Angus mince at €9.48 for a 500g pack.

Poultry covers Italian, French and Ukrainian chicken, plus duck, foie gras, guinea fowl, quail and turkey, with chicken mince at €4.98 for 500g. Pork includes Iberico, Spanish and local Maltese cuts, lamb includes Silver Fern lamb from New Zealand, and the rabbit and game range extends to venison, wild boar, pheasant, pigeon and goose. There are also barbecue menus, burgers, sausages, kebabs, marinated meats, charcoal, roasts and a Christmas menu, along with pasta, rice, sauces and FalkSalt seasoning.

Delivery and ordering

Deliveries to Malta and Gozo are free on orders of €50 and over. Order before 12:00 for same-day delivery, or pick a preferred date and time at checkout, and you can ask for the meat to be cut into portions. Orders over €100 earn free products as part of the monthly special offers. Our Gozo guide is worth a look if you are staying on the sister island, as deliveries reach there too.

If you prefer to choose over the counter, visit the Gżira shop or the Qormi butcher, which is directly opposite a local bakery on Triq il-Mithna.

Planning your visit

Gżira is a seafront town beside Sliema, so a visit pairs easily with a promenade walk or a trip into the capital, and our guide to hotels in Sliema and Gżira covers where to stay in the area, while our Valletta guide shows how close the capital is. Our things to do in Malta page suggests what to see between meals, and our introduction to Malta is a good first read for anyone new to the islands. Newcomers settling in can read our relocation guide for UK arrivals for everyday advice.

Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to La Boucherie, whether you want advice on a cut or details of a delivery.
