Snow White Meat and Poultry Market is a family butcher in Mġarr, in the north-west of Malta, with a simple promise: fresh meat at fair prices from a shop that is happy to give you cooking tips. It sits beside the popular Ta' Soldi Restaurant on the road into the village, and its own slogan is that it is certainly worth the drive.

From poultry farm to family butcher

The business began in 1977 as a poultry slaughtering and cutting farm and grew into the family-owned and run butcher shop that stands today, making fresh products daily. Chicken and pork come from local suppliers. The beef is of foreign breeds raised in Malta by farmers working for the shop, and it is slaughtered at around 12 months, which keeps it tender compared with beef from animals slaughtered at 24 months or older.

Snow White also prepares marinated and stuffed products, using spices from around the world, that can be chargrilled, stir-fried, oven cooked or barbecued. Staff are happy to share recipe ideas for a healthier way of cooking, and the shop invites you to let the butcher prepare a cut spiced with one of its marinades when a barbecue is planned. Pet food is on the shelf too. The business is registered under company number C29829.

What is on sale

The online shop lists over 200 products across more than a dozen groups: poultry, beef, pork, lamb, turkey, veal, other meats, stuffed meats, marinated meat, barbecue foods, breaded foods, burgers, sausages and a few specialities such as guanciale. Poultry alone runs to whole chicken breast at €7.90, drumsticks, legs, thighs, capons and kebabs, and the sausage range includes Maltese sausage at €6.50, Cumberland, chorizo and rabbit varieties. Burgers include beef burgers in packs of ten at €12.80, plus Angus, veal, turkey, chicken and Wagyu varieties.

Beef covers bragioli, brisket, cheeks, chuck roll, cubes, ribeye, rib roast, rump and mince, in fresh and frozen form. Frozen beef and frozen mince are stocked alongside the fresh range, and there are breaded items such as mozzarella sticks and cod fillets for quick family meals. There is also a barbecue line, with ribs, pre-cooked chicken kebabs and marinated cuts. Delivery and visiting the shop

Online orders are delivered from Monday to Friday, depending on locality, in the late morning and early afternoon, and delivery is free on orders over €40. The shop itself is open on weekdays and on Saturday mornings, so a weekday visit is the best way to see the full counter, ask questions and choose cuts yourself before deciding what to order online later.
