The Manchester United Supporters’ Club Malta is the oldest Manchester United supporters’ club in the world, founded in 1959 and based in a spacious clubhouse in Msida. It welcomes members and visiting fans on matchdays and at weekly opening sessions, runs events and an online shop, and has a Gozo branch. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.
The Manchester United Supporters’ Club Malta was founded on 4 February 1959, and Manchester United itself recognises it as the oldest standing supporters’ club in the world. It has its own clubhouse on Quarries Square Street in Msida, a town on the edge of Valletta's harbour area, and a community of Maltese Reds who gather to watch matches together.
On VisitMalta.co.uk it appears in our directory of sports clubs in Malta. For a British United fan visiting the island, it is a natural place to watch a game among fellow supporters, and a matchday is when the clubhouse is at its liveliest.
History and purpose
The club's founder, John Calleja, first visited Old Trafford in August 1957 and returned in August 1958, a few months after the Munich air disaster, when he put the idea of a Malta supporters' club to Sir Matt Busby. Busby welcomed it warmly and arranged help from the club's secretary and first-team trainer.
Today the supporters' club is an active organisation whose main aim is to spread the name of Manchester United and encourage support for the team in the Maltese islands and abroad. Among its achievements is bringing every trophy Manchester United have won to Malta. Sir Alex Ferguson is its patron, and the club has published a members' magazine called Echoes from Old Trafford since the 1973 to 1974 season.
Visiting the clubhouse
The clubhouse opens on Friday evenings from 18:30 to 20:30, on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 and from one hour before kick-off on matchdays, when it is at its liveliest. The club's website also offers a 360 degree virtual tour of the premises.
Social events run through the year. Recent examples include a traditional fenkata, the Maltese rabbit supper, on Friday 6 November 2026, and a Mass at the clubhouse on the first Sunday of November to mark All Souls Day. Past events have included visits from former players, a Munich remembrance Mass, a live podcast at the clubhouse and a Malta Supporters Cup.
Membership, tickets and shop
Annual membership was priced at €30 for adults and €20 each for youth and senior members for the membership year from 1 June 2025 to 31 May 2026. Check the current season's fees when you enquire, as the committee handles applications and renewals. Members have access to a discount scheme and other benefits, and the club accepts applications for match tickets under its published terms.
The online shop sells supporter-made merchandise, including a scarf at €12.00, polo shirts at €25.00, mugs and bottles at €15.00, towels at €35.00 and pin badges at €7.00. Buying supports the club's activities and events.
Gozo branch and youth
A memorandum of understanding signed on 3 May 2019 links the club with the United Club on Gozo, and the Gozo branch has its own sub-committee. There is also a youth sub-committee for younger supporters. If you are heading across, our Gozo guide and hotels in Gozo pages will help you plan.
