SOHO The Strand is the flagship of the three business centres run by SOHO Office Space in Malta. It stands on Triq L-Imsida in Gżira, in an area of embassies, seafront villas and technology and gaming firms. Companies and individuals rent space here by the month, the day or the hour instead of taking on a conventional lease.
It is a good fit for freelancers, start-ups, overseas teams testing the island and established firms that want a ready-made office. The centre is listed in our directory of business and corporate services in Malta.
Inside the Strand centre
The Strand opened to members in October 2019. Its Scandinavian-inspired interior spreads across four floors and includes a gym with a sauna, an in-house bar and restaurant, a members' lounge, a games area and roomy terraces. The group itself began in 2013, when Michael Pedersen and Kris Petersen, two Danish expats, struggled to find the right office for their own business and built SOHO around the gap they found.
Gżira and neighbouring Ta' Xbiex are well placed for anyone working in the sector. Our guide to iGaming in Malta explains why so many gaming firms have settled nearby, and out-of-town guests can stay at one of the hotels in Sliema and Gżira.
Offices, desks and virtual addresses
Private offices at the Strand come in several sizes and start from €550 a month. A dedicated desk, from €325 a month, is a fixed workstation in the coworking area with round-the-clock access, reception services, free gym membership, unlimited use of the Skype rooms and six complimentary hours in a meeting room. A hot desk costs from €30 a day or €215 a month for a free seat in the shared area during reception hours, which run from 8.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays.
Anyone who only needs an address can take a virtual office from €65 a month, which brings a Malta business address and a professional front without a permanent desk. Remote workers weighing up the island will find more in our guide to working remotely from Malta.
Meeting rooms and call booths
Five rooms here can be hired by the hour, by members and outsiders alike. The Yellow and Log rooms cost €20 an hour, or €10 for members, and keep to the basics: air conditioning, Wi-Fi, soundproofing and refreshments. The Forest and New York rooms, at €30 an hour or €15 for members, add a TV, webcam, whiteboard and privacy curtains. The Lounge Boardroom is the grandest at €50 an hour, or €30 for members, and catering can be requested.
For video calls there are two pairs of soundproofed Skype rooms at €7.50 an hour, free for members. Each of the SOHO rooms is set up for groups of up to ten people.
Gym, lunch and community
Members can train at any hour with their keycard and join free classes during the working week, including group boxing, yoga and a high intensity core session, then use the sauna and lockers. A daily lunch cooked by the in-house chef is served in the members' lounge, with a regular or vegetarian choice of starter salad, main course and dessert, eaten on the terrace in summer. Larger gatherings can book SOHO's catering packages for breakfasts, lunches, barbecues and open bars.
Relocating a business is a further service: SOHO helps with workspace, fit-out, preferred partners for company services and legal help, and extra property searches for operations of sixty staff or more. Our UK guide to relocating to Malta and the featured company, tax and relocation services of CLA Malta are useful companions. Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message on to SOHO.
