Teatru Manoel is a working theatre in the heart of Valletta, on Old Theatre Street. It presents a year-round programme that stretches from classical concerts and drama to dance, comedy, pantomime and shows for babies, children and families, and it also runs tours of the building for visitors who want to see the theatre itself as well as a performance.

On VisitMalta.co.uk it appears in our directory of entertainment venues in Malta. It is an easy addition to a day in the capital, which our Valletta guide covers in detail.

What is on

The online programme groups productions by type: tours, drama, concerts, music, dance, pantomime and a family and children's strand called Toi Toi. Dates run well into 2027, so you can plan a trip months ahead. Each listing shows the date, the start time, the running time and an age guide, which is helpful when you are choosing between an adult drama and something for younger members of the family.

The autumn and winter 2026 season includes Oscar Wilde's Salomé on 6 November, Richard Strauss' Salomé as a concert, regular stand-up comedy nights, a Christmas special comedy evening, The Nutcracker on 12 December and a Great Little Panto Show in early December. Peter Pan follows as the pantomime in January 2027. Classical music fans can follow the Beethoven200 series, which pairs piano concertos and symphonies across the season from November 2026 to June 2027. Later in the year the programme includes War of the Worlds, Mistero Buffo and Alice in Theatreland, described as Malta's first Easter panto.

Programmes change, so check the booking site for the latest dates before you travel. Our guide to the weather in Malta by month helps you plan which season to visit.

Family and young audiences

Teatru Manoel puts real effort into younger audiences. The Toi Toi strand includes a baby series for ages up to three, with titles such as Jingle, Around the Fire, Up in the Air and Beach, along with toddler sessions for two to three year olds and a music series called Bop for children and families, including Club Bop, Toddler Bop, Yuletide Bop and Kids Bop. Shows for older children include The Lion and the Mouse, for ages four to seven, and Luke and Nannu Cisju, for ages seven to ten.

Each listing gives the age guidance, and some adult productions carry stronger ratings, including one marked for over-16s with nudity and stand-up nights for over-18s. Singalong Seniors is aimed at older audiences. If you are travelling with a family, our guide to things to do in Malta offers more ideas for the days between performances.

Tours of the theatre

Alongside performances, the theatre offers two tours: The Grand Tour of Teatru Manoel and a tour called 1732, A Tour of Teatru Manoel. They give a daytime way to see the building without buying a seat for an evening show. Dates and prices for the tours are shown on the booking pages.

Valletta rewards a slow visit. Pair a tour or a matinee with a walk through the Upper Barrakka Gardens, a visit to St John's Co-Cathedral and some background reading in our Knights of Malta guide to understand why the capital looks the way it does.

Booking and visiting

Tickets are sold through the theatre's booking website, where you choose a performance, pick your seats from a plan and pay online. You can create an account to access member pricing, or continue as a guest. Seat categories and prices vary by production, so check the show page.

The theatre also has pages for rentals, news, and learning and participation, for people who want to hire the space or take part in workshops. If you are staying in the capital, our list of hotels in Valletta is the best place to start, and our flights to Malta from the UK guide covers the journey.
