Welbee's

Welbee's Supermarket in Mellieħa is the branch for self-catering visitors and residents in the north of Malta, on Triq Il-Kbira, the main street of the town. It belongs to the Welbee's group, one of the island's larger grocery chains, and has the stock of a full supermarket plus the group's online shop, loyalty scheme and delivery options.

On VisitMalta.co.uk the branch appears with the other supermarkets in Malta. It is especially handy if you are staying near the bay and want to stock up before heading out for the day.

About the Welbee's group

The Welbee's brand was born in October 2021, after four local grocery and supermarket businesses merged in March 2021 under Retail Marketing Ltd. Some of those businesses had been trading since the 1940s. Today the company owns and operates ten Welbee's supermarkets across Malta, employs more than 500 people and works with local suppliers and importers.

The group's values are local roots, family spirit, unity, respect, honesty and trust. Its founders are Maltese, it promotes local produce wherever possible, and its staff come from more than 34 nationalities. Welbee's has other shops in places such as Qawra, Sliema, Paceville, Naxxar, Balluta, Spinola and Santa Venera, so the same brand is familiar elsewhere on the island.

Shopping online and delivery

The online shop at the group's website lets you register or shop as a guest, enter your address and choose between delivery and pickup. Because orders are fulfilled from two different supermarkets, depending on your location, you are asked for your address when you add the first item. Pickup points are at Welbee's Spinola, St Venera and Naxxar.

Delivery is free for orders over €65, and smaller orders carry a €5 charge. A €5 surcharge applies where the courier must climb stairs because there is no lift, and an express same-day delivery costs a fixed €13 whatever the value of the order. Delivery is carried out by a third-party courier, who calls a few minutes before arriving. The group is also available through the Wolt app. Age-restricted items such as alcohol need age verification.

Support runs through live chat and by phone from 7am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, except on public holidays.

Loyalty club and everyday value

The Welbee's Loyalty Club earns points and cashback offers on online orders, and members can use accumulated cashback against a bill at checkout. The online shop also lets you save favourites, view your order history, reorder, and approve replacements for out-of-stock items either with or without a call.

Typical offers include Greek yoghurt and feta cheese from the Kionas brand, with a 150g pot of 0% Greek yogurt priced at €0.99 or €1.19 depending on the flavour. For a wider choice, recipes and a catalogue are available on the website. The shop's categories span everyday groceries and household items, and the website has a search with sorting, a recipes section and a catalogue, so you can check prices and plan a shop before you go.
