Food and Drink at Montekristo Estate
Montekristo Estate has three places for food and drink: MK Kitchen for catering, Rare Pub and Grill for meat, burgers and pasta, and Brauerei Montekristo, a German-style brewhouse pouring beer made on site. The estate also produces its own bottled water and soft drinks, so a meal here can be made largely from the estate's own cellar and kitchen.

MK Kitchen
Catering service for weddings, conferences, parties and other events
The estate's catering service, supplying food for weddings, conferences, parties and other events.
MK Kitchen is the catering arm of Montekristo Estate. It aims for high quality food and attentive service, and it works across many kinds of occasion rather than serving walk-in diners.
If you are planning a celebration or a business event on the estate, this is the team that looks after the food. It is a catering service, so contact the estate to discuss what you need.

Rare Pub and Grill
Open Monday to Friday 17:00 to 23:00, Saturday 08:00 to 23:00, Sunday 08:00 to 17:00. Indoor seating.
An indoor pub and grill for beer, sport and a menu of meat, burgers and pasta.
Rare is a lively indoor spot where the menu is put together by top chefs. Expect grilled meat, burgers and pasta, plus a screen or two for the big match, which makes it a natural choice for a group of friends or colleagues.
The pub also hosts staff parties in a range of styles, and a downloadable menu is available from the estate if you want to look before you book.

Brauerei Montekristo
Open Monday to Friday 5:00pm to 11:00pm, Saturday 11:00am to 11:30pm, Sunday 11:00am to 3:00pm. Indoor and outdoor seating.
A German-style brewhouse serving beer brewed, fermented and matured on the estate.
Brauerei Montekristo is the estate's brewery and taproom. The beers on offer are Maltese Lager, Maltese Pale Ale, Pilsner, Dunkel and Irish Stout, all made on site.
You can sit indoors or outdoors, and take bottled beer home, refilling the bottles with whichever beer you prefer.
Estate beverages
Tal-Fawwara still water (500ml, 1.5L, canisters), sparkling water (500ml, 1.5L), soft drinks
Water and soft drinks produced on the estate, alongside its beer and wine.
The estate makes its own bottled mineral waters under the Tal-Fawwara name. The still water comes in 500ml and 1.5L bottles and in canisters, while the sparkling water comes in 500ml and 1.5L bottles.
Soft drinks are also part of the range, under the Sinalco name. Businesses who would like to stock the estate's products can get in touch with the estate.
Eating at the estate
Montekristo Estate sits on Triq ta' Hal Farrug between Siggiewi and Luqa, and food is a big part of why people come. There are three separate establishments, each with its own character, so you can match the venue to the mood of the day: a lively pub for sport and a hearty grill, a brewhouse for a long beer-led afternoon, or a catering kitchen that feeds the estate's weddings and corporate gatherings.
For an ordinary visit, Rare Pub and Grill and the brewery are the two places to sit down. Both are on the estate, so if the group cannot agree, there is no need to drive anywhere else. Use the main Montekristo Estate page for an overview of everything on site, including the other places to visit.

The brewery and its beers
Brauerei Montekristo describes itself as an authentic German Brauhaus, with Maltese enthusiasm combined with German brewing know-how. The beer is brewed, fermented and matured in-house by experienced brewmasters, which means what reaches your glass has travelled only a few metres.
Five beers are listed: Maltese Lager, Maltese Pale Ale, Pilsner, Dunkel and Irish Stout. That gives a sensible spread for a group, from something light and cold on a warm Maltese afternoon to a dark, roasty glass when the evenings turn cooler. If you would rather drink at home, bottled beer is sold and the bottles can be refilled with any of the beers on offer, a handy idea for anyone staying in a self-catering apartment.
The brewery has both indoor and outdoor seating, so it suits most weather. Check the Malta weather guide when planning, as a table outside is lovely in spring and autumn but can be very hot in high summer.

A day out combining food with the parks
The estate is a good fit for a family day. A sensible plan is to explore the grounds first, then eat. Our page on the parks and museum at Montekristo covers what there is to see, and the pub and brewery are close by for lunch or an early evening meal once little legs have had enough.
Opening times differ between venues, so build the day around them. On Saturdays and Sundays both Rare and the brewery open in the morning, which makes a weekend visit the easiest. On weekdays both open only in the late afternoon, so a weekday visit works best as an early evening meal rather than a lunch.
If you enjoy wine as well as beer, the estate also makes its own, which you can read about in wine and farm produce at Montekristo. It is worth knowing about before you choose what to drink with dinner.

Groups, families and celebrations
Rare Pub and Grill takes staff parties, from relaxed gatherings with finger food to a full à la carte meal, an open bar or a private function arranged around your needs. Anyone organising a work night out from Malta can contact the estate directly to plan it.
MK Kitchen is the estate's catering service and handles weddings, conferences, parties and other events. If you are planning something bigger, see the venues at Montekristo Estate page, and consider browsing the wedding venues in Malta directory to compare options.
