AISO is a Maltese music organisation made up of AISO Academy, which teaches music production, DJing and audio engineering, AISO Productions, a recording studio, and AISO Records, an independent label. It has bases in Ħamrun and in Valletta, and you can contact it through the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page.

AISO brings three connected parts of Malta's music scene together: a training academy, a recording studio and an independent record label. The academy runs workshops, mentorship and hands-on programmes in music production, DJing and audio engineering. AISO Productions records, produces, mixes and masters, and AISO Records releases music by artists it discovers and works with.

The organisation is based in Ħamrun, close to Valletta, with a second location in the capital's Design Cluster. It is listed with the island's recording studios in Malta, and the city itself is described in our Valletta guide.

The mission is to empower aspiring musicians, producers and audio enthusiasts through education, mentorship and artistic support, creating a supportive ecosystem where talent can grow. That community focus sets AISO apart from a studio that only records, and it makes the organisation worth a look for anyone who wants to learn as well as release music. UK visitors with a few days in Malta can combine a workshop with sightseeing at the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum or in the Three Cities.

The academy

AISO Academy offers courses and workshops for students at every level, from an introduction to music theory to advanced production techniques, taught hands on by working instructors. Lessons also include guitar, music production and music theory. Beyond the classroom, the academy takes part in Erasmus and youth exchange initiatives, hosts European Solidarity Corps projects, and runs a Summer School programme for young talent.

It also organises music retreats and links students with opportunities in Malta and abroad. For families and young people thinking about a longer stay, our UK guide to relocating to Malta and our digital nomad guide cover the practical side.

AISO Productions, the studio

The studio welcomes artists from all over the world and aims for a personalised sound across many genres. Its team of four producers comes from Africa, Berlin, Malta and the UK. The rooms are acoustically treated, and the services cover recording engineering, song production, mixing and mastering, sound design and music distribution.

Song production is offered with exclusive rights, meaning the producer keeps ownership and control of the master recording, so ask what that means for your project before you commit. Artist management and event management are listed too. You can book an online meeting to learn more, which is handy if you are planning from the UK.

AISO Records and community projects

AISO Records has been working with artists from around the world since 2020. With support from the Arts Council Malta, it mentored six artists through a year-long programme to develop their careers. Past projects include an international cultural exchange, a mentoring programme in 2022 and 2023, guided meditations in Maltese, and work around integration and World Refugee Week.

The leadership includes the founder, Aidan Somers, a Maltese producer and educator who also records as Alias 1, and the director, Clayton Gauci, known as CLEIGH, a producer, recording engineer, DJ and guitarist rooted in the Maltese hip-hop scene. Izaak Stivala leads growth and design. Companies planning creative projects can also read our guide to the Malta corporate tax structure.
