England Insurance Agency Ltd is a family-run insurance agency based in Pietà, in the harbour area close to Msida and Valletta. It sells and services cover for cars, homes, health, travel, businesses and professionals, with an emphasis on one-to-one relationships and careful explanations of what each policy does and does not cover. Our directory lists it among the insurance providers in Malta.
History and regulation
The agency was established in 1981 by the late Henry and Paul England, following new legislation that year, after earlier years trading under other names and representing foreign insurers. Since February 1994 it has been the agent of Middle Sea Insurance, now Mapfre Middlesea, Malta's leading insurer. Today brothers William and Peter England, the third generation of the family in insurance, run the business, and a working director is on site.
England Insurance Agency Limited is enrolled under the Insurance Distribution Act as an insurance agent for Mapfre Malta p.l.c., which is authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority. Products are manufactured by Mapfre Malta and distributed by the agency, and both entities are regulated. A network of tied insurance intermediaries also works with the agency.
Motor and home cover
Motor insurance comes in three levels of cover, and every level includes free towing and breakdown help through Mapfre Assist for private vehicles, commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tons, motorcycles, quad bikes and classic cars. The service covers roadside repair, battery boost, flat tyres, towing, fuel delivery and locksmith help, and for private vehicles it applies across Europe.
Home insurance includes an automatic 24-hour emergency repair service for burst pipes, electrical failure, lost keys and broken glazing. It covers callout and up to two hours of labour, to a maximum of €200 for each incident and three interventions in a policy year. Discounts apply for senior citizens over 60 and for customers who also insure a car.
Sales advice is offered by phone and email during office hours, and home visits are available if you prefer, along with electronic servicing. The team also issues road licences.
Health, travel and professional cover
Health insurance offers inpatient and outpatient schemes with a choice of practitioner, hospital or clinic. Existing medical conditions are excluded and prices rise with age. Policies can also meet visa requirements for entering Malta, residency and work permits, which is useful for UK movers: see our relocation guide for UK arrivals. Travel cover is available for business or leisure, and the agency also arranges business packages, boat cover and professional indemnity for doctors, pharmacists, accountants, lawyers, architects and engineers.
Professional indemnity has been a specialist line since 2001, with particular emphasis on medical malpractice. It is designed to protect professionals against legal liability to third parties who suffer injury, loss or damage. An errors and omissions policy is also available for service providers such as beauticians and personal trainers.
Claims, service and office
Claim forms for motor, home, travel, boat, business, health and personal accident cover can be downloaded, and the agency asks to be told of any incident promptly so it can guide you. Claims can be paid by electronic transfer if you wish, commercial risk surveys can be carried out at your premises, and after-hours appointments are possible. A 24-hour emergency line operates through Mapfre Assist.
The office is on the first floor of 190 Marina Street in Pietà, directly opposite the Msida yacht marina.
