GasanMamo Insurance is one of Malta's best-known insurers, and its Gżira branch on Msida Road sits on the coast between Sliema and Msida, in an area that suits residents, second-home owners and long-stay visitors alike. The company writes cover for cars, homes, trips, health, boats, rental properties and businesses, and it handles the claims too.

This page explains what the company offers, how its policies are set out and how its branch network works, so you can decide what to ask before you call in or send an enquiry. As the Gżira branch is one of eleven offices, it helps to know which services are shared across the network and which are dealt with at the head office in Ħal Qormi.

Who GasanMamo Insurance is

GasanMamo Insurance Ltd was formed in 1999 through a merger of Gasan Insurance Agency and Galdes and Mamo Ltd. It moved from an agency to a full insurance company in 2003, when the Malta Financial Services Authority granted it a licence to underwrite general insurance business on 1 January. It is authorised under the Insurance Business Act and regulated by the MFSA to carry on insurance business in Malta.

Its roots go back more than 75 years through its predecessor firms, and it employs 190 people. Its mission is to give assurance to clients, employees, partners, shareholders and the wider community, and its values are being friendly and professional, ethical and forward looking, and community focused and environmentally conscious. Motor insurance

Motor cover is the company's best-known line, and its car policies are described as the most popular in Malta. Customers can choose comprehensive or third party, fire and theft policies, or cut the cost by restricting cover to third party only, accepting a higher excess, insuring more than one vehicle or limiting the named drivers. Extras include a free protected no claims discount on comprehensive and third party, fire and theft policies after five claim-free years for drivers aged 25 or over, free roadside assistance on comprehensive policies and a road licence renewal service.

Younger drivers have a dedicated product called Boosh, a private motor policy for drivers aged 18 to 24 that gives an immediate 65% discount, lets the driver register the vehicle in their own name and offers a smartphone app to monitor the car. Other motor products cover electric vehicles, electric kick scooters, classic cars, newly registered vehicles and driving abroad, and a dash cam scheme is also listed. Quotes and renewals can be done online.

Home and landlord cover

The home policy protects buildings and contents against fire, explosion and smoke, theft or attempted theft, leakage of water or oil, malicious damage, impact by aircraft, vehicles or animals, storm, flood, lightning, earthquake and falling trees. It also covers your liability as owner and occupier, towards domestic employees and in a personal capacity. Automatic extensions apply to the buildings and contents sections.

Policies that include buildings cover come with a free 24 hour home emergency service for burst pipes and blocked drains, a complete failure of the electricity supply caused by damage to the internal installation, lost keys to the main house, and broken windows or doors that are a security risk. A Home Loan Protect policy gives standard buildings cover for people taking out a mortgage, and landlord and multi dwelling policies are sold separately. If you are buying in Malta, our Malta relocation guide and guide to Malta tax for UK nationals cover the other costs to plan for.

Travel, health and boat insurance

Beyond the car and the house, the personal range includes travel, health and boat insurance. Each has its own page and claims route on the website, and customers can contact the company about each type separately. Marine cargo is handled through the same personal insurance team, which also looks after travel, home, boat, landlord and multi dwelling policies.

Boat owners can ask the Gżira branch about boat cover, and the claims team handles boat claims alongside travel, home, landlord and multi dwelling claims. Visitors planning a longer stay can browse hotels in Sliema and Gżira while they arrange cover.

Business, group health and cyber insurance

Commercial customers can arrange business insurance, group health insurance for staff and cyber insurance, with claims routes for each. A separate commercial insurance team deals with business enquiries, and claims on commercial policies are handled with personal claims for travel, home, boat, landlord and multi dwelling cover. Tied insurance intermediaries also sell its products, and the company keeps a section for them.

The branch network

The Gżira branch is on Msida Road. The head office is at 84A Mill Street in Ħal Qormi, and in September 2026 the company moved there after decades spread across several buildings in Gżira. Other branches are in Birkirkara, Mellieħa, Mosta, Mrieħel, Paola, Ħal Qormi, Rabat, Sliema and Valletta (see our Valletta city guide), and a vehicle inspection bay operates in Ħal Qormi. Holidaymakers based in the north can see our Mellieħa guide, and those staying inland can read our Mdina and Rabat guide.

Claims can be reported through an online form or the Claim Easy app, which walks you through the details of an accident step by step. The company then confirms by email with a reference number and posts a printed claim form to sign and return with your excess, and you can also call in at any branch.

Leadership and experience

The directors listed are Joseph A. Gasan, chairman of Gasan Group and the insurer; Julian J. Mamo, managing director since 2013, who has more than 25 years in insurance; Mark Gasan, chief executive of Gasan Group since 2014; Mark Mamo, who joined after graduating from Cass Business School in London in 2002; Nicholas Bell, who has a background in investment banking in Europe and the United States; Baudouin Deschamps, who has 30 years in insurance including almost 25 with the Aviva Group; and Robert Rogers, with 35 years as a reinsurance underwriter and broker, latterly at Willis Towers Watson with responsibility for UK and Irish clients.

Day to day, the management team includes Leslie Causon for personal and commercial business, reinsurance and overseas markets, Michael Farrugia as financial controller, Mark Mamo for network, health and IT, Dr Vanessa Portelli for operations, risk and compliance, and Francis Valletta for motor.

Community role and team

The company supports sport, culture, heritage and social causes. In 2026 it supported Cycling with Jack and the United by Wheels and Sports4Kate events, and it donated €22,500 to Puttinu Cares Foundation to help furnish a room in its new accommodation in London.

Its stated commitment is to add real value in all that it does, and it invests in training and technology so staff have the knowledge and tools to meet that standard. It also takes part in national economic forums and backs entities working in heritage, culture, sport and social support for people in need. Policyholders who want to see how that works in practice can ask a branch about the Dash Cam Scheme, the Claim Easy app and the road licence renewal service, which are all part of the motor offer. To ask about cover, a claim or a branch, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to GasanMamo Insurance, or browse our directory of insurance providers in Malta to compare firms.
