Enquire about this tourGozoBlu Malta is the northern base of a small family business that runs private, skippered boat trips around Comino, Gozo and the Blue Lagoon. From Mellieħa, guests meet their skipper at Ċirkewwa and head out on a 24-foot RIB, a rigid inflatable boat driven by a Yamaha 250 V6 engine, or step up to the premium 30-foot Zodiac Medline 900. Each outing belongs to your group alone, so the swim stops, the timing and the pace are yours to shape.
This page is written for UK visitors weighing up the many boat trips on offer from the north of Malta. It sets out the two boats, the ten kinds of trip you can book, what the price covers, how payment and booking work, and what the Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa side of the island has to offer before or after your time on the water.
A family firm with a dozen years in tourism
GozoBlu is a small, family run business with more than twelve years in the tourism trade. Private boat trips are a more recent addition, built on a wish to share the islands' scenery and history with visitors in an intimate, comfortable way. Guests are looked after as if they were part of the family, and the aim is a tour that feels personal rather than processed.
Your skipper is local and licensed, and the family's skippers have worked these waters for over twelve years. That experience shows in the small decisions: which cove is quietest at a given hour, where the water is best for a swim away from the crowds, and when the light turns golden for photographs. Sustainability matters to the family too, along with protecting the clear water around Gozo, Comino and the Blue Lagoon for those who come later.
If you prefer to take the helm yourself, the business focuses on skippered trips and does not hire out self-drive boats, though it can point you towards partners who do. You can also browse other boat charters in Malta and tour operators in Malta to compare what is on offer.
Two boats: the 24-foot RIB and the Zodiac Medline 900
The everyday boat is a sleek 24-foot RIB with a single Yamaha 250 V6 engine. It is quick enough to reach Comino in no time, stable enough for families and fitted with plush seating, a good sound system, plenty of room for bags and a cool box, and a full set of safety equipment. Its shaded seating makes it comfortable on a hot day, and it handles both a gentle cruise and a livelier ride across open water.
For a more indulgent day there is the premium 2025 Zodiac Medline 900, a 30-foot luxury RIB powered by twin Yamaha 300 V6 engines, 600 horsepower in all. It has ergonomic seating, shaded areas, a Bluetooth sound system, generous storage for snorkelling and fishing gear, and built-in safety equipment including life jackets, navigation and emergency kit. Its steady ride at speed suits sunset cruises, family explorations, fishing, freediving or a fully custom day, and it reaches distant coves and fishing grounds easily.
Both boats are maintained carefully, fully insured and fitted with up to date safety features. Choose the RIB for a classic, comfortable family outing, or ask about upgrading to the Zodiac when you want extra speed and space.
Private tours and prices
The trips run from two hours to a full eight hour day, and each one is priced from €100 per hour. The shortest, the 2-Hour Comino Highlights, covers the Blue Lagoon, the Crystal Lagoon, Popeye's Cave, Lovers' Cave and Cominotto before a scenic pass by Lantern Point. The 3-Hour Full Comino Loop circles the whole island and adds Santa Marija Bay and Tower, San Niklaw Bay, Elephant Rock, the cliffs and the Għemieri rock window.
Longer trips add Gozo. The 4-Hour tour pairs the Comino loop with southern Gozo and its snorkelling at Ta' Ċawla Point; the 5-Hour trip adds Xatt l-Aħmar and Mġarr ix-Xini with an optional lunch stop; and the 6-Hour trip lingers on one side of Gozo, with optional visits to Ramla Bay, San Blas Bay, Dahlet Qorrot or the Ta' Ċenc Cliffs. The 8-Hour full day goes right round both islands, taking in Xlendi, Dwejra and the Xwejni salt pans.
There is also a 3-Hour Sunset Magic cruise around Comino and southern Gozo, a Custom Adventure of two to eight hours, and the specialist fishing and freediving charters. All the cards are set out in the table above; prices for the fishing and freediving trips are given on request.
What is included, payment and booking
Your charter covers the private boat, an experienced skipper, all fuel, quality snorkelling gear, chilled bottled water with an ice box and a few light local snacks, such as cheese and crackers. Shaded seating is provided and so are life jackets, including children's sizes. On some trips the business also adds complimentary drone photography. Taxes and port fees are included on the 4-hour and sunset trips.
Pay by major credit card, bank transfer or cash. Booking is simple: choose a tour, give your preferred date and group size, and you will hear back with availability and clear meeting instructions. In peak season from June to September, book a week or two ahead, or earlier for special dates and large groups. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund, and if the weather rules out a trip, it is rescheduled or refunded in full.
Arrive around twenty minutes before departure. Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, swimwear, towels, a camera and any food you would like. The tours suit children, but they are not suitable for guests with back or heart conditions or limited mobility, and there is no wheelchair or pushchair access. Infants sit on a guardian's lap, and pets are not allowed.
Fishing and freediving charters
Beyond sightseeing, the 24-foot RIB doubles as a platform for two specialist private charters. The fishing charter offers expert guidance, good tackle and the best seasonal spots on the Mediterranean. The freediving boat adventure takes you to wrecks, reefs and caves for breath-hold diving with a certified trainer on board, and no tanks are needed.
You need no previous experience for either charter, as both are designed for every skill level. Prices are given on request, so enquire with your dates, group size and interests. If you would like to dive with tanks instead, see our Bezz Diving Malta page.
Setting out from Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa
GozoBlu's Malta base is on Triq il-Marfa in Mellieħa, the road that runs north-west along the Marfa ridge towards Ċirkewwa, where the Gozo ferries dock. Guests meet their skipper at Ċirkewwa, the closest harbour to Comino, so the crossing to the islands is short and you spend most of your time swimming rather than travelling. Our Mellieħa guide covers the town, and you can choose from hotels in Mellieħa if you want to stay nearby.
Because the Gozo ferry also leaves from Ċirkewwa, the same meeting point suits visitors planning a day on Gozo. Departures from Mġarr Harbour on Gozo are available too, and you can select your pick-up point when you book.
The north of Malta before or after your trip
Mellieħa Bay, known locally as Għadira, is Malta's longest sandy beach, with shallow, gentle water that suits young children. Nearby, the film set of Popeye Village sits in Anchor Bay and makes an entertaining half day for families. Further along the coast, Golden Bay and neighbouring Għajn Tuffieħa offer fine sand and some of the island's best sunsets, and our list of the best beaches in Malta will help you choose.
The hillside town of Mellieħa has a good choice of restaurants and a sanctuary church, and the country around the Marfa ridge is pleasant for a walk in the cooler months. For wider ideas, browse our things to do in Malta and plan around the season with the Malta weather guide.
The crossing to Comino and getting in touch
From Ċirkewwa a small boat reaches the Comino channel within minutes, with Comino and little Cominotto ahead and the hills of Gozo beyond. Comino is a small island with very few permanent residents, famous for the shallow turquoise water of the Blue Lagoon, which gets crowded by mid morning. A private boat lets you plan around that, and your skipper can choose quieter coves, caves and sandy pools instead. For the sister island, our Gozo guide is a good companion.
